Very old now but still worth getting
I haven't bought Settlers 4 yet, which I intend to do, since I have had this for years and do find that it is worth hours of fun and I'd like an updated (hopefully bigger and better) version.

The premise is very simple. It is a God sim where you control a bunch of Romans who have been shipwrecked on an uninhabited (in the case of the first 2 levels at least) island, and you need to make buildings such as a fisherman's hut, a farm and a hunter's hut to feed yourselves and an iron foundry and an armoury to creat weapons and tools. The way to expand is to build military outposts which extends the area of land that you hold. The object of each level is to find the "magic portal" which will transfer you to a new world - always hoping that it will get you home to Rome.

As the game progresses you aquire an array of different buildings which will do different things, and you must fight your way through various enemies to get yourself to the gate, needing to pay for the wages and training of your soldiers, so you must find, mine and smelt gold as well as iron for tools and weapons - no weapons or gold (and beer) no extra soldiers.

The graphics are now outdated, but if you want hours of fun, very cheaply, I can highly reccommend it.

The classics are still the best.
I have played settlers 2 and 3 and i find myself wanting to come back and play settlers 2 more and more. I have also played the command and conquer seris up to red alert 2 yuris revenge and i find that going back to the original command and conquer game is alot more appealing than playing the others over again. In short the original are the classics and without them as the foundation for the modern games we would not have the great strategy games of today for our enjoyment. Settlers 2 is no exception here as it too is to me the original settlers 3, an amazing and great game of today.

This is really good!
This game has excellent graphics and I like the fact you get better every time you play! Also with both scenario and campain modes.
