Incredible musicianship demonstrating the awesome complexity and yet compelling grooves of traditional Indian tabla drumming. Thse tracks that bring in electronics (mostly the tracks involving Britain's Talvin Singh)do not lose the authenticity in any way; the subtlety is not lost and the rhythms are enhanced rather than obscured. This album rocks from beginning to end.

East meets west4
The name of the record hints that the tabla plays an important role in the music - and it does. The songs, most of them 100% instrumental, focuses on this indian instrument. But together with the tabla there are the western modern electronic sounds - drumloops, samplings, basslines... It's an upbeat tempo and the sound is a typical 'Bill Laswell'-sound (he is the man behind most of the songs and the production).

Personally I like the tabla and you get a lot of it here. Together with the modern electronic sounds it makes a nice mix - the best from the east and the west. The thing I have mixed feelings about is the sound of the record, with this I mean the 'Bill Laswell'-sound. No doubt he puts a big footprint on the record and I've never been able to decide if I like his sound or not. But in this case I think I do.

Conclusion: I like this record and if you're into the tabla and like modern music you will problably like this record. And if you like Bill Laswell you'll love this record - no doubt.

Worth every penny!5
Superb mix of ethnic and modern drum n bass sounds. Absolutely superb, I highly recommend this album. Great to chill out to in a candle lit room.
