Editorial Reviews
CD Description
Mariah Carey's lilting voice is so attractively airy that even when she's getting down and dirty on RAINBOW's numerous groove-heavy tunes, the overwhelming effect is one of a soothing aural massage. The mix of pop and R&B here is a link toCarey's past efforts, but the injection of a hip-hop flavoron several tunes points the way toward the singer's future.
Carey hasn't changed her style so radically as to partake in rapping; instead she's assisted by some talented guests, like Jay-Z, who enlivens the opener "Heartbreaker", and the "Heartbreaker" remix, where Mariah is flanked by Missy Elliot and Da Brat". On the poppier side, there's a stately piano ballad co-written by the ubiquitous Diane Warren and an unexpected cover of the Phil Collins hit "Against All Odds", which Carey delivers with soul and faithfulness to the original version. RAINBOW provides just the right balance betweenthe old Mariah that fans know and love, and the new Mariah, who refuses to stop growing.
Customer Reviews
Colourful collection from MC!
I remember when this album was released in the Autumn of 1999, I remember being so excited to get it, and I wasn't dissapointed! On 'Rainbow' Mariah sounds great! 'Heartbreaker' is a fantastic opener with a great video (watch it if u get the chance!), this CD has such a diverse range of songs from ballads 'Can't Take That Away from Me' 'Thank God I Found You' and 'Against All Odds' (the version without Westlife is SOOOOOOO much better!) to uptempos such as 'X-Girlfriend' 'How Much' and 'Crybaby'. The album also contains the classic 'Heartbreaker remix' reaturing Missy Elliott and Da Brat! Brilliant!
An awsome album!
There are three reason to buy this album:
1.Mariah never looks so sweet on the cover photo.
2.The album title "rainbow" is very meaningful:
--I know there is a rainbow, for me to follow,to get beyond my sorrow, thunder precedes the sunlight,so I'll be alright,if I can find that rainbow's end--
3.The songs are incredible...like:
-Can't take that away
-After tonight
-Against all odds
-Petals
-Thank god I found you
and more...
This is an album full of emotion and sincerity,go to buy it and support our Mariah going "Through The Rain"!

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
This is the perfect MC album. The crossover dance hits, the hip producers, bucket loads of producers, gentle ballads. But with the cutesy, retro "Heartbreaker" and so 80s cover, this becomes more than the average Carey album!
