It wasn't broke - they didn't fix it!
ISS98 was the best football game on the N64 in terms of playability, and with that in mind Konami have kept a similar format for ISS200. So why buy the new game? There are a few reasons to part with your hard earned dosh.

Firstly there are improved graphics - especially with the expansion pack.

Then there are some improvements to playability - short sharp passing is the name of the game as opposed to mindless through balls (though they still work). Crosses from the byline are much more successful than on the previous version, with the majority of the goals I scored in my first few games coming from headers or from close range. Gone are the endless hours of long distance shooting too - the ISS2000 goalies are too good for that (at least on level 5 anyway) - however it is still far too easy to score from corners, I'd say a 75% success rate on average.

There are a number of new teams added to the list, but as with the old version copyright reasons prevent Konami from using the real names of the players, which can mean you need some inspired guesswork to come up with the right player names. As before however, you can edit player names to your own preference.

The 2000 version also boasts a "Career" option. I tried this a couple of times but in all honesty i found it a bit mindless, lots of button pressing and so on, not much action. I admit I didn't follow it through to the end so it may have some redeeming features.

So, this is a very playable footie game with great graphics and a lot going for it, but not massively different from the previous version.

ISS - Back with a different name
Once again Konami have produced another fantastic football game, but I can't help feeling it's ever so similar to the previous games. Indeed the gameplay is still great, the sounds leave a little to be disired and the graphics aren't to shabby-especially with the backup of the expansion pak-it'll play like a real beaut. Yet, those wonderful people at Konami aren't too lazy. They've added a career/story mode that will keep you going for even longer; not like the matches aren't enough to keep you and your mates entertained for ages. Overall, the slight improvements are well worthy of commendment and it's the best sports game on the N64 at the moment.
