Do get funky!5
Well it's always something special about your first love. This was the album that introduced me to the 'deep funk' genre, the real underground funk of the seventies beyond the pale of better known artists as James Brown or the Funkadelic outfit.
It's full of highly charged tracks as the ones by Little Royal and Roosevelt Matthews - rare, fast and hard as the subtitle promises.
In my mind Marie Queenie Lyons is the real heroine of this volume. Represented with three tracks, the seductive 'Fever' the groovy 'See and don't see' and the fantastic, superloaded 'Your thing ain't no good without my thing', she sings with unrestrained fervour and passion.
Another favourite is 'Don't get funky' by Glora Walker. Strange advise to one powerful lady! You'd be hard pressed to find a nastier chunk'o'funk than this one.
Two funky divas and then some.

Yes - the funk lives on5
There is so much good stuff on here it should take up permanent residence in your cd player. what's even better is that you won't find these tunes on every other funk compilation - or even any other compilation. you have found a gem. buy it.

Your thing ain't no good without honky tonk popcorn!5
Out of the 24 tracks here an astonishing 17 is well worth having. 12 of these tracks are very good,
and 5 are just fan-funkin-tastic! Both tracks with Bill Doggett are so cool they could probably
smoke cigarettes underwater!
Other highlites include Marie Queenie Lyons, J. Hines & The Fellows and Gloria Walker.
It's a real shame that Gloria Walker didn't record more than she did, because everything I've heard
from the woman sounds great.
This is mos def one of the top notch funk compilations out there, from the label who started the whole
thing when James Brown released his brand new bag.
