Editorial Reviews
CD Description
The word "angelic" almost seems an understatement when applied to the golden voice of Sarah Brightman. She makes Enya sound like Tom Waits, and LA LUNA is full of tunes that allowBrightman to freely weave her vocal magic.
She moves convincingly through a number of styles here, the atmospheric soundscapes of the introductory "La Lune" giving way to the electronica-tinged "Winter in July", which in turn leads intoa delicately updated arrangement of the British folk tune "Scarborough Fair", made popular in the '60s by Simon & Garfunkel. Thick washes of strings mate with electronic percussion on Brightman's version of the Procol Harum classic "A Whiter Shade of Pale". On "How Fair This Place", she shows off the impressive operatic chops that helped her to earn her diva stripes. Ultimately, whether she's sweetly subverting folktunes, ably adapting classical material, or reigning like apop princess over very contemporary arrangements, Brightmanwields a voice that never fails to enchant.
Customer Reviews
Amazing.
This Cd is one of the most amazing ones I've heard so far. There is a mix of pop and classic in it and it is perfect! Sarah's voice has improved greatly and La Luna is a beautiful album to prove it! Hijo de la Luna would be a wonderful single and has a wonderful beat to it. This Love is more of a pop song but still is a great listen. I would also like to reccomend Timeless which is another great album. Scarbrough fair is my favourite piece and no one sings it better than Sarah, slightly jazzy! All Sarah Brightman fans should add this to their collection!
Arrestingly Beautiful Music
Sarah Brightman's newest album provides New Age interpretations of everything from classical symphonies to classic rock. "La Luna" is like Loreena McKennitt or Enya but with much bigger and broader production. Perhaps the best track, the vocalization of Beethoven's 7th Symphony ("Figlio Perduto"or "Lost Son"), rests between the likes of "Scarborough Fair" and the very well done "Whiter Shade of Pale", Procol Harem's organ-rock masterpiece from 1967. Brightman even does a version of a very recent pop song, Dido's "Here With Me".
For those of you who have never heard Sarah Brightman, her voice bears resemblance to Kate Bush but with added sweetness, mystery, and haunting beauty. The sleeve notes provide English translations of the foreign-language songs.
Other tracks which struck me were "This Love", Rachmaninov's "How Fair This Place", and Ennio Morricone's "La Califfa".
i love sarah
this album is the best thing i have heard in years
