Customer Reviews
Great music & very funny. Pitty about the sound quality.
There are some great tracks on these 2 cd's(about 40 tracks). The music is from soft reggae to rock to punk. The texts are funny & crazy and the music is great. Just to give you an example of what crazy stuff they sing about here is little bit from the song I like gurls - "I like girls with tree trunk thighs and little hairy chests...". There is only one downside to this cd and that is the sound quality of some of the songs. It's like the singers voice gets "blurred" by the music. It's not bad just a little annoying at times. This is a must have! Buy it now! Very funny!
Alberto who ...?
The 'Berts were a hard gigging comedy rock band from the 70's who specialised in spoofing just about any rock/pop act and music genre of the time - heavy rock, prog rock, country, soul, punk etc. and had a reputation for very funny live shows. While the rest of school were into the serious stuff - Floyd, Zep etc. our gang were seriously into the Berts - even daring to play Alberto songs at the school concert. Either brave or daft considering the content and language of a lot of the tracks on this CD; which is a complete compilation of their three studio albums. Definitely NOT one for the kids!!
A reasonable knowledge of the music of the time will maximize enjoyment especially as some of the targets have been long forgotten about. Try playing the game - "Who's that a p**s take of...?" Some specific victims are obvious: Status Quo; Lou Reed; ABBA, Sex Pistols, others take a bit more thought (Ian Dury, Nick Lowe, Devo...) You'll probably need to be on the wrong side of 35 to appreciate the more subtle Skits a few of which are more miss than hit. The CD doesn't contain the excellent punk parody songs from their successful 1977 musical Sleak and Snuff Rock EP which marked the high spot of their popularity.
There are some very clever songs here and despite all the silliness, stupid lyrics and deliberate mistakes the musical talent of the band shines through - most of the members going onto successful careers in 'straight' bands or on TV.
Enjoy!
Alberto Y Los Trios Paranias - Mandrax Sunset Variations
This CD is a Gem! and brings back wonderfull memories of the bands live sets of the early seventies.
Politically Correct? No, but a great laugh!
Buy it!
