Outstanding Collection Of Bonnie Tyler Music5
"Total Eclipse: the Bonnie Tyler Anthology" is a real gem and a must have album for anyone who likes the music of the greatest voice ever, the welsh wonder, Ms Tyler.
This is the biggest and most definitive Bonnie anthology ever assembled, bringing together three decades' worth of power ballads and powerhouse performances. From her first single, "My! My! Honeycomb" in 1976 to 1996's "Say Goodbye", one of her most beautiful songs to date. Of course, all the hits are here, "Total Eclispe Of The Heart", "Lost In France" and "More Than A Lover" etc plus some of her most stunning recordings, "We Danced On The Ceiling", "Loving You Is A Dirty Job" to name but a couple.
The songs spread across these two discs are a mixture of rock, pop, country but they are all great and living proof that Bonnie is the greatest singer ever to have lived, in my opinion anyway.
The deluxe packaging and in-depth sleeve-notes complete this ultimate retrospective of Bonnie's work, a superb set that is a treat to listen to and one that you should treat yourself by ordering a copy today.

A magnificent anthology5
Bonnie never achieved consistent success in Britain or America, though she has fared better in Germany. This compilation includes all Bonnie's British and American hits and a selection of her other songs.

Being a double CD, this anthology explores her career in greater depth than a single CD could ever do. Still, they can all be found elsewhere. As compensation, this collection contains many other excellent songs including My my honeycomb (Bonnie's first single) and several of Bonnie's nineties recordings, as well as Islands (a Mike Oldfield track featuring Bonnie as vocalist).

There were three phases to Bonnie's career. The first phase, her RCA recordings, occupy the first sixteen tracks. Many of them have a country feel to them although the final track (Married men) is very different and shows that Bonnie was already seeking a different musical direction. The biggest hit during this period was It's a heartache, which made the British top ten, the American top ten and also made the top ten in the American country charts. Lost in France also made the British top ten. More than a love and Married men were minor UK hits. Many other singles were released but failed to chart. My favorite among them (Louisiana rain - a Tom Petty cover) is not included but several others are.

The second phase (Bonnie's Columbia recordings) is represented by just nine tracks. This somewhat understates their importance in Bonnie's career, but the label that released this anthology had to license these tracks and that may be the explanation. The British hits during this period were Total eclipse of the heart (a number one hit in Britain and America), Faster than the speed of night, Have you ever seen the rain, A rocking good way (with Shaking Stevens), Holding out for a hero and Loving you is a dirty job. Again, there were several failures, among them The best (a Bonnie Tyler original recording that failed to chart until Tina Turner covered it, when it became a major worldwide hit - you may know it as Simply the best) but although Bonnie's recording of this song is brilliant, it's not included here.

The third phase of Bonnie's career began when she signed to a German record label in the nineties. She continued to record in English (though she has since recorded a few songs in other languages) and I regard her German recordings as being among the finest of her career. You'll find them here on the second CD beginning with Bitterblue, a major hit for Bonnie in Germany and the title track of her first German-recorded album. The title tracks of her next two albums, Angel heart and Silhouette in red, are also included, deservedly so as they are outstanding.

This is a very strong compilation. If (like me) you find one or two tracks not here, they can probably be found on other compilations, but this is a great starting point for a Bonnie Tyler collection.

All in one voice!5
Whether you like it or you don't one must admit that Bonnie, her music, her style and her voice have withstood the test of time. She was the first female ever to hold the top spot in the UK in 1983. This is a great album insofar as it really shows the extent of Bonnie's style from the very first single previously unreleased (MY, MY HONEYCOMB) to other rare tracks like her duet with Fabio Jr. (SEM LIMITES PRA SONHAR). Of course, it also has her world wide hits too (ECLIPSE, HERO, among others) Overall, this is a great purchase if you did not know much about her music until the release of her GREATEST HITS album. I think that this anthology is a truly great collection of her work going from country to a more bluesy sound, from a hard-rock sound to soemthing more pop... Bonnie has done it all. Her extraordinary vocals remain as clear as they were originally, but you can definitely hear the progression and the confidence that shows that this is what Bonnie was born to do. If you own previous Bonnie material, this deal may not be as interesting for you, but if you only have her most popular hits, you are about to discover the realm of possibilities such a great voice has to offer. I have been following her since the very beginning in 1976, when I happened to hear her on the German radio waves and her voice has nothing to envy to her younger years. On the contrary, it has definitely become stronger and more assertive in the way the diva interprets her material. For those who are familiar with her work throughout the years, you may just give it *** or even ****, but for those who lost touch with her after her successful period in the 80s, trust me, her dry spell was not felt on the continent. Sometimes, different styles are coming into the picture and you just have to let go of some other ones. That does not mean that the un-heard voices out there are not worth listening to. And believe me when I tell you that this is one voice! Listen to what you may have missed, sit back, and enjoy the work. You may just happen to love music all over again.
