Amazon.co.uk Review
Straight from the fiery pits of Hades (and the folks at Capcom, of course) comes a devilishly addictive video game with action to spare. Based on the comic book by Todd McFarlane, Spawn has become a successful cartoon, a mediocre movie, an action figure and, with the advent of Spawn: In the Demon's Hand, a video game.
Spawn's entry into the video-game world is a fighting game akin to a smaller scale Gauntlet Legends, with power-ups and weapons that lie around a 3-D landscape that's filled with ferocious enemies. The game offers three distinct fighting modes--team, battle royal and boss--and features graphics that are so sharp it feels almost like you're playing one of McFarlane's comic-book characters come to life.
Unfortunately, the game's controls are somewhat difficult to master--movement is controlled by the digital pad, and aiming is performed with the analogue joystick. Add the incredibly quick action and multiple characters on the screen, and you've got what can be sometimes a confusing mess.
The faint of heart will be pleased to see that, along with toggles for the skill and volume levels, Spawn: In the Demon's Hand features a three-stage violence option that allows the player to ease the gore--though even with the violence level turned all the way down, Spawn's idea of conflict resolution still involves a magic chain to the noggin. --Benjamin Reese

ohhh Sweet Hell
Spawn: In the Demon's Hand, is a cross breed of game genres, part scrolling beat em up, part shoot em up, part INSANE MANIAC LUNACY. You get an initial set of 12 characters, with an additional 24 to unlock all from the comics, there are tons of levels which are multi flawed with multipul rooms so the ation is always moving about, there are roughly 60 different types of weapons and six modes of play. These range from your simple arcade mode to Battle Royal and Team Boss mode. The graphics are blinding, moving at a amazing speed considering all the detail and action on screen, it runs at about 60FPS..wooo, looks so good. The sound is also pretty cool, the music is great...especially the cheasy "Rip it Up" song played through the openning CG, which is very impressive. The constols are quite simple, D-Pad to move, 1 attack button, 1 jump, 1 view change and 1 for weapon change. The contols are very responsive and easy to pick up straight away. Some people might say they would prefer to use the analog stick to control the character but this option is unavailable, however the D-Pad does the job nicely. Also, some reviews in magazines complain about the in-game camera. I did'nt really find the camera a problem, its a 3rd person view so you can see your character moving about, occasionally you may find thay you are taking flack from an off-screen enemy which can be a little annoying but you re-spawn if you die so you can have your revenge. Some times you may find you are getting shot at from behind, so you press down on the pad to turn round, but instead of the camera sticking behind you, you are faced with a front view of your character, so you still can't see who is shotting at you. This is easily fixed, i have come to find that tapping the view toggle button will send the camera shooting back behind your character, so you can see what you are shooting at.
All in all, this is a great game. You don't have to be a Spawn fan to enjoy it, theres enough variety in the characters to keep you interested and enough secrets to unlock to have you playing for ages. However it must be said that the game is very fast and very brutal so younger gamers may want to steer clear, but the older ones can enjoy it for what it is...mindless fun. Also, if you get 3 friends round, expect some real big laughs as you blow each other to pieces over and over again, add it to your DC collection now!! a definate recommended purchase.
spawn was a king now hes a god!
this game is in one word, excellent. i am a great fan of the comic and a huge fan of the dreamcast. this game plays like a cross between quake 3 and soul calibur. you play as one of 36 characters, with six modes of play, characters to win and a gallery to collect this game is so much fun. it has more fun than quake in it and is four player capable. 5 stars all round.
Buy SPAWN: for fast, stylish explosive multiplayer action .
Spawn: In the Demons hand, is blatant shoot'em'up, there's no story, just lots of stylish explosive multiplayer action. If you like having your mates around for a friday night frag-fest this is the game for you. The 4 player split-screen mode is the strongest part of the game I think, with loads of arenas and 36 distinct characters all with individual weapons and power ups, you won't be disappointed. Slick graphics are a BIG plus too. However, there is no online function which is a
big shame and the in game camera views can be a little confusing as it such a fast game. The one player part of the game could be more expansive also. (I'm hoping for a sequal) A solid 4 stars then. Go out now and expand your DC collection, NOW!
