Amazon.co.uk Review
Tammi Terrell, whose work this is The Essential Collection of, is destined to be forever linked with Marvin Gaye. During the 60s, the swoonsome twosome recorded a succession of sublime duets, establishing themselves as America's sweethearts. Tragically their partnership was prematurely ended in 1970 when Tammi died of a brain tumour. However, as this superb Motown collection deftly demonstrates, her less-familiar but currently highly sought-after solo recordings are equally deserving of celebration. Although Terrell was still only 20 when she signed for Motown in 1965, she had already recorded for Specter/Wand and spent a tempestuous year as part of the notorious James Brown Revue. Newly arrived at Hitsville, Tammi was teamed with writer/producers Harvey Fuqua and Johnny Bristol. There followed a string of brilliant, though only moderately successful singles and the classic long-player "Irresistible". All of the aforementioned are included here, alongside B-sides, rarities and a Marvin duet. Standouts among many include the mid-tempo alchemy of "Come On and See Me", Tammi's joyous scamper through the Isleys' classic "This Old Heart of Mine" and "Lone, Lonely Town", a string-stirred swirler, which until recently was criminally gathering dust in the Motown archives. --Chris King
CD Description
This 18-track anthology is a solid overview of the tragically shortened career of Motown singer Tammi Terrell, featuring her hit duet with Marvin Gaye, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."

First collection of solo recordings
Although Thomasina Montgomery, better known as Tammi Terrell, was only 20 when Berry Gordy signed her to Motown in 1965, she had already been recording singles for five years at Scepter/Wand under the aegis of James Brown. At Motown She made one solo album, called Irresistible, and three singles, but went on to achieve more notable success in a musical partnership with Marvin Gaye, producing several hit singles and a couple of albums.
Tragically she died on 16 March 1970 of a brain tumour, having collapsed onstage in Virginia into Marvin Gaye's arms on 14 October 1968.
Thirty years later this first collection of solo recordings shows the extent of our loss. The entire Irresistible album is included, mostly produced by Johnny Bristol and Harvey Fuqua, together with the complete singles, both sides, and some rare and previously unreleased tracks of no lesser quality. Two well known songs are This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You), recorded a year earlier by the Isley Brothers, and an early version of I Gotta Find A Way (To Get You Back), later recorded by the Temptations (her boyfriend was their lead singer David Ruffin). The album closes with her first single with Marvin Gaye, the transcendental Ain't No Mountain High Enough.
Not included are her solo versions of material recorded with Marvin Gaye, which have found a home as bonus tracks on the compilation The Complete Duets
MUST HERE THIS
Tammi,Id never heard of this gorgeous girl(check out the cover). Then i heard come on and see me..WOW..HIGHS, LOWS,LILTIING ,LULLING AND LIFTING.What a sad loss to music when she passed away.Just hear , I Gotta Find A Way To Get You Back, for a change in tempo and a very familiar backing track(do i love you). This girls voice gives me the shivers,im a fan of course and some have called her average,if you havent heard all of her work, hear these gems and see for youreself.
In the shade Marvin Gaye
We have been seduced and captivated by the sensational duets by Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye. Sadly, Tammi by herself does not live up to the magic of those. A pleasant album, but with nothing outstanding and marred by her tendency to slide around the true note, rather than hitting it. An album best left for the devotee.
