Amazon.co.uk Review
Produced by the infamous Dr Dre with assistance from Mr Suge Knight, Doggy Style was the first solo outing by Calvin Broadus aka Snoop Doggy Dog corporating a straight gangsta vibe into the deep funk grooves pioneered by George Clinton and his Parliament-Funkadelic ensemble, Snoop and Dre dogmatically invent the "G-Funk" aesthetic. Espousing an irreverent dope, bitches and guns mentality, Doggy Style garnered the Parental Advisory for explicit lyrics it sorely deserved. Still, Snoop's lazy-yet-acrobatic rap/drawl is distinctive and undeniably entertaining. With additional vocals from Tha Dogg Pound (Nate Dogg, Warren G, Kurupt and Dat Nigger Daz), this disc is deceptively professional and musically quite slick. "Murder Was The Case" is practically an inner-city classic, while "Ain't No Fun" is another blunted, urban-rap anthem. Woof! --Mitch Myers

CD Description
Long Beach, California's Snoop Doggy Dogg made one of the most successful debuts in rap music with DOGGYSTYLE. Introduced on the Dr. Dre single "Deep Cover", Snoop gained further popularity with his smoothed-out gangsta-type flow on Dre's THE CHRONIC. His music has ruled the clubs and the airwaves ever since, and the fact that his Dr. Dre-directed video "Murder Was The Case" was extended into an 18-minute feature-length film with its own soundtrack is further proof of just how much pull Snoop has in the hip-hop nation.
Having super-producer Dr. Dre behind the scenes guaranteed DOGGYSTYLE atop ten spot on the pop charts. Singles like "Gin And Juice" and "Who Am I (What's My Name)" have helped Snoop gain therecognition of the entire music industry without selling out his original rap audience. Possessing among the most unique deliveries in hip-hop, Snoop revives the old-school with his remake of the classic "Lodi Dodi"--originally performed by Slick Rick, and reinterpreted in a West Coast style. A guest appearance by The Dramatics on "Doggy Dog World" also helps illustrate the rapper's fondness for 70's grooves. And just as Dre pushed him out front on THE CHRONIC, Snoop empowers Tha Dogg Pound on DOGGYSTYLE, allowing his homies to sharein his spotlight on "Ain't No Fun (If The Homies Can't HaveNone)".

This was one of the first albums, borrowed from my brother, that inspired me into the world of hiphop!i just love the style of snoopdogg and all the original tunes get you on your feet dancing and singing along.all words that are true and spoken from the heart of an experienced rapper.infact this album is so good i think you should buy it now, i would list my favourites from this album but i love them all so thats all you need to know really.this album is fantastic!

one of the best rap albums....ever5
not only is this snoop's best cd by far, its also one of my favourite rap albums ever.

the music is just so good (dre stands tall), and the tight verses and hooks by snoop and co make this an absolute gem.

classic songs: gin n juice, murder was the case, serial killer, whats my name, ain't no fun, doggy dogg world, gz and hustlaz.

thinking about a rap cd, get this one

Not bad for a debut!4
Well, what can I say, other than sorry im late. This album is old, but still beats the hell out of anything the likes of G-Unit or Cash Money released. However, I would have to disagree with a previous reviewer who said that lyrically, its one of the best of all time. The reason I disagree, is because of artists such as The Coup, Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, 2Pac and the outstanding Sage Francis. Dre, as far as a producer goes........well, I know he is good, but it just seems to me he takes one type of sound and changes it, which is admirable, but not too creative. As far as an MC goes, he should really leave it to the professionals like Snoop.
As far as the album goes though, it is excellent. For the time and genre, it sounds amazing, even now. The smooth flow of snoops rhymes are flawless, from one lyric to another he is the John Shaft of hip-hop. How can I not mention "Lodi Dodi" as an all time classic, with the flow that was originally Slick Ricks, and also the song title inspired by the same man. "Pump Pump, also another great track aswell as "Gz and Hustlaz".

My advice is, if you are just starting out on the road of hip-hop, go back to its roots, being Digital Underground, LL Cool J, Tower of Power, Gill Scott Heron and not to mention Kurtis Blow!!! These guys were the real 'OGs' of hip-hop. Then proceed into the realms of snoop and Dre.
But if not, buy this album, very good, amazing even.
