Amazon.co.uk Review
With his debut EP under the Quantic moniker having been championed by such tastemakers as Gilles Peterson, Mr Scruff, Rainer Truby and Jazzanova, Will Holland was quick to follow on this success with The Fifth Exotic. Like label compadres Bonobo and Jon Kennedy, Holland takes his inspiration from the sleepy 90s chill of Ninja and his samples from an enviable collection of funk 45s and in spite of the occasional off-message meander, his debut full-length has plenty to offer those seeking late night horizontal delights. Whether the blunted percussion of "Time Is The Enemy", which slowly unravels around a series of dreamy piano loops, or the wide-eyed orchestration which makes a glorious swoop through the vocal preface of "Infinite Regression"--there is more than enough here to persuade even the most hardened opponent of chill that Holland is a musical youth to keep an eye on. --Kingsley Marshall

Customer Reviews

A blissful mood mosaic of cinematic sounds and grooves.5
I noticed this amazing album on a listening post in HMV!Struck by the rather swish cd cover,I decided to give it a spin. And how glad I did!All 12 twelve tracks simply blew me away.It was like my ears were suddenly transported to an orgy of audio bliss!I was immediately blown away by the quality and depth of each track.Beautifully arranged,Quantic have captured the true essence of modern lounge/mood music cleverly fusing elements of the 60s/70s with modern beats and spine tingling sonics.Almost akin to the great Dj Shadow in places,Quantic have layed down grooves sprinkled with hip hop and jazz which in turn paint mind blowing images of ultra cool retro cinematic movies. Moody, groovy, slick and delicious-buy this and let Quantic take you into the world of the 5th Exotic-I have got my ticket booked. I urge you to do the same!

How could anyone not like this!!5
This album is so funky and chilled, it has elements of lots of different instruments, samples of course, but still very good. I agree that 'Time Is The Enemy' is great, its one of my all time favourite tracks, hows this for diversity; as 'Time Is The Enemy' is mainly piano based, but you get the odd sample of electric guitar now and then!! Less Jazzy than Apricot Morning; which is for the better; as it sounds more modern that way.
The second best track would have to be 'The 5th Exotic'.

A great debut from the talented will holland!
