Amazon.co.uk Review
Extermination is PlayStation 2's first fully fledged venture into the world of survival horror, combining the classic elements of the genre created by games such as Resident Evil and adding a few neat touches of its own. The story is run-of-the-mill stuff--an Antarctic army base is overrun by slime-spitting aliens; special forces get sent in to sort it out; mayhem and murder ensue with a generous helping of ultra-violence for good measure.

Entrance into the military base reveals a dark world of alien intruders, some of which are quite frankly revolting. Graphically, it's all of a very high standard--some of the best-looking effects since the MGS2 demo--which really help to build mood. Sadly, the voice acting owes more to Scooby Doo than Day of the Dead, and at times is frankly diabolical. But if you slide this complaint aside, Extermination is very well executed and contains heaps of the kind of action that keeps you coming back for more.

Sony have tried to make this a little different by labelling it a "panic action" game, the idea being that rather than settle for standard survival horror fare the action switches from the relative security of exploration to bursts of intense action, in which the player really needs to act with speed and shooting accuracy. In practice it works very well and the plot develops at a reasonable speed, the action sequences providing plenty of entertainment at regular intervals.

As an overall experience, Extermination has earned the right to rub shoulders with the Resident Evil dynasty, but it doesn't quite go that extra mile that would have put it at the top of the horror game tree. That said, this is superb entertainment and a good addition to the library of any self-respecting PS2 owner. --Chris Russell

Hoofin game!!4
If you're fan of resident evil/onimusha type games then you'll love this one. An encaptulating story line, decent graphics for 2001 which still hold thier own especially on the cut scenes. Good charcters which you connect with, an exellent rifle which is 'hoofin' for getting the rounds down into wierd monster things and is capable of supporting many attatchments through out the game like a shotgun, flamethrower, grenade launcher and something else quite special that makes your rifle look like the 'dogs' which i'll leave as a surprise for you to dicover. If your're looking for a bit of harmless violence, mass gunfire and fun try this one out it's great.
However their are a few setbacks. Because the english has been dubbed over, the characters mouths do not match the words and in some circumstances they continue after the voice has stopped. Also its not that long; about 5-6 hours, leaving you wanting more but when you reload a finished save you're left with a few treats which make re-completeing alot more fun.
However these are minor setbackes and dont do anything to dampen the game experience. This title will leave you feeling like a marine i.e 'nails' and 'gouchi as', so get your teeth into this one and enjoy.

Good story, but a bit pants3
The game has a really good story and is fun to play the graphics are not the greatest and the controls, in my opinion suck. It was a good game and enjoyed it. If you like games like Metal Gear Solid, you will find this game ok. I don't recommend it, there are lot of better games on the market.

Quality5
One of the first really good games on the PS2.

The graphics are pretty good (this game is about 3 years old now...) and the gameplay awesome. The combat is great with the Infection levels making it that one bit more exciting. The bosses too are great to fight.

The plot borrows a lot from The Thing. An Arctic base, alien lifeforms... it's been done before in a few million B-Movies, but it does it with a bit of style.

It's been a long time since I played it, but off the top of my head the scenes like the infected area of the base, the water tower bit and the dark room where you need the torch were awesome. Very movie like and for a budget price it's a must-have for any action game fan.
