Manufacturer's Description
This definitive version of the classic real-time strategy game combines the original Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness and the Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal expansion set with free Internet play over Battle.net, allowing competition with up to eight opponents from around the world.
Warcraft II Battle.net Edition is the continuation of the ruthless clash between the armies of the noble Humans and the brutish Orcs. From the initial, unexpected invasion of the Orcish Horde to the Great Alliance's quest to forever seal the Dark Portal that links their two worlds, you will experience the epic saga of the mighty battle to gain dominance over the kingdom of Azeroth. Along the way, you will need to carefully manage your limited resources to successfully construct and rule your medieval empire while engaging in real-time tactical warfare over land, sea and air.

Windows XP
This is the only version of Warcraft 2 which can run on XP.
Warcraft II was re-written in order to make it compatible with all of
today's Windows systems. This new version is called Warcraft II: Battle.Net
Edition.
The best game for it's time.
If you like games like Age of Empires, Starcraft, Age of Wonders, Tzar, then you can all thank the creators of this game here, Warcraft 2. Warcraft 2 follows on for the award winning Warcraft, but has much better graphics and gameplay possibilities. Playing over the internet is a scream, and provides lots of lots of hours of fun. Back when it was released, I would play no other game until I had finished this one - very addictive.
Unfortunately, since it is an old game (still works with DOS!), it does not compare very well with the new games like Age of Kings, TA Kingdoms and the like, but it is still good for those who enjoy this genre of game. It still however gets a rating of 5, just for the sheer gameplay and challenge that it provided. Well done blizzard!
Old before it's time, But wait!
WarcraftII was "the" game to have, One of the best command games to follow with it's simple but interesting plot. Sadly it is quite old, so wait till early next year when Blizzard release WarcraftIII. yes, you heard me right! it combines the play of the first two with brand new features, hopefully making it as successful if not more so than it's predecessors!
