CD Description
MADHOUSE: THE VERY BEST OF ANTHRAX chronicles the groups work from 1985 through 1991. The influential New York-based thrash metal band was one of the first rock outfits to experiment with rap (predating the whole "rap metal" craze of the late '90s by a decade). This is borne out by such tracks as "Bring the Noise", a Public Enemy cover featuring cameos by Chuck D and Flavor Flav. But Anthrax is best remembered as a true heavy metal band, and such standouts as "Madhouse", "Indians", "Belly of the Beast", and a metallic re-working of Joe Jackson's "Got the Time" prove it. Although the group would go on to issue more material throughout the '90s and beyond, MADHOUSE: THE VERY BEST OF collects nearly all of Anthrax's definitive cuts.

Customer Reviews

Anthrax's finest hours on one disc - thrash heaven \m/5
When people think of the pioneers of thrash metal, the names Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth are the most predominant. However, Anthrax were there alongside them, and still going strong. Albums such as Among The Living proved them to be every bit as heavy, aggressive and angry as their more famous comrades. However, what distinguishes Anthrax from other thrash acts is the wonderful melody, purpose and feeling that is a trademark of their sound. Anthrax were also pioneers of crossover, combining heavy metal music with stark, harsh lyrics that would be just as at home in a hip-hop band. Having said that, Anthrax's crashing drums, crunching bass and incredible guitar riffs mark them out as one of metal's finest.
This best of album brings together all of Anthrax's finest moments from the shining albums that have been produced throughout their career. Classic song like 'Caught in a mosh' or 'Indians' make the album unmissable although their are notable absences. The thundering 'Among the living' (loving that riff) let the album down slightly but this is imperfection is miniscule. The Very Best Of Anthrax is a must have for all metal fans. Many people forget Anthrax when they choose influential thrash metal bands, buy this album and refresh your memory. Unmissable.
