With Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities, ace label Kent, in the shape of the ever-reliable Ady Croasdell, have compiled a scorching selection of 24 mostly recent northern soul discoveries. The inclusion of Audrey Matthews' simply sublime "I have No Choice" is especially timely, as current plays from newly cut acetates have generated a rapturous reception throughout the scene. Elsewhere, Dan Folger's regret-etched beat ballad, "The Way of the Crowd; the legendary cover-up, "What Happened to Yesterday", by Mr Soul; and the Delfonics falsetto festooned, "You'll Get Enough", top many a "wanted list". However, there is one track that makes this compilation absolutely essential--jazz diva Karmello Brooks' potently crooned "Tell Me Baby". Originally issued on jazz label Milestone in 1966, this self-penned fully orchestrated up-tempo slice of soul alchemy was actually the flip-side. --Chris D King

kick back and boogie
top notch northern soul album some rare songs on here for the die hard northern soul fans and some mods i shall expect.
few upbeat songs to keep the dancers happy and a lot of mellow tunes for you to kick back and chill too . a must for you rare soul people top tune for me on the album is (the dellfonics you'll get enough) but you make your own mind up

TOP QUALITY SOUL
This is one of my current favourite discs at the moment.First track sets the standard Eddie Whitehead,JUST YOUR FOOL, what a voice, the mans got soul down to his socks .If you dont Know this track the albums worth buying for this track alone.Track 3 is the imaginations version of Strange Neighborhood good record but not as good as Dean Parish's version.Track 6 is another belter by the Millionaires, AND THE RAINS CAME,. There isn't a bad track on this disc.As with all Kent records well recorded. Tracks compiled by Adrian Croesdell this man has got an encyclopaedic Knowledge of all things soulful but more then that he has great taste in music. Oh yes and he whites great sleave notes. In short if you love Northern Soul you will love this.

classy compilation
so many northern compilation cds are dissapointing these days, and their sound quality is often second rate. This Kent compilation has been in my collection for a couple of years and still gets played. Its credible, classy and atmospheric. tracks are not just there for rare/obscurity value, they reflect changing dancefloor tastes. Excellent sleeve notes and thorough research. If you want to buy a seriously good Northern Soul cd, buy this, if only for Mr. Souls 'what happened to yesterday.
