Editorial Reviews

CD Description
An interesting collection of singles and posthumously archived material created in the same way as Hendrix's CRASH LANDING and The Beatles "Free as a Bird", (albeit with most of the original musicians), CONFRONTATION is more consistent than one would expect and includes at least one certified classic in "Buffalo Soldier". The record features some very tastyguitar, good vocal performances and the always rock-steady rhythm section of the Barrett brothers. While not absolutelyessential, it should certainly be the next purchase for anyone who already owns all of the official Marley albums. While the disc is perhaps a little light on variety, it's still a Bob Marley album and thus as good as the best work of manyother artists. Overall, CONFRONTATION is great mellow summertime listening and a worthy addition to any reggae collection.

Customer Reviews

This Bob Marley album was made at the same time as "Uprsing"5
This album was made during 1980, alongside "Uprsing", but they prefered "Uprsing", so they shelved this ready maybe for 1981, he died before he could offically release it, a real shame.

This is his joint best album with "Uprsing", and is just amazing!

The final album by The Wailers3
This was released in 1983 2 years after Bob Marley's death. It was the ending to the trilogy of albums that began in 1979 with Survival. That album is an absolute classic as is it's follow up Uprising. In comparision to those two and the rest of their back catalogue this is a bit of a disappointment, but that is only because of the extremely high standards that The Wailers reached throughout their illustrious career. There are some excellent songs here but the majority of the album just doesn't quite have that same feel that their best work does. The melodies aren't quite as memorable, the lyrics not as good as before. The music is still enjoyableand there are flashes of brilliance which make it worth purchasing if you're already a fan, but I certainly wouldn't recommend starting your collection here. As a big fan of The Wailers only awarding 3 stars almost makes me feel traitorous but as I awarded Natty Dread 4 stars and would consider that a better album than this, 3 stars is the right score. I believe that had Bob still been alive, more work would've been done on this album to bring it up to standard. He ws incredibly driven and focused and would drill his fellow bandmates mercilessly to get the sound and quality that he wanted. Confrontation includes the popular hit Buffalo Soldier which is one of the obvious highlights but personally I prefer Mix Up, Mix Up and I Know. I love the intro for Mix Up, Mix Up. The drums start, followed byt he keyboards and then Bob's voice "Oh Lord, Oh Lord, Oh Lord yeah..". It has that same feel good vibe that Easy Skanking and Kaya had and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. So overall a good album, but not the classic that this trilogy of albums deserved.

If you are serious about Bob Marley you must have Confrontation5
In Confrontation Bob opens his heart and expresses his feelings in the way he never did in Exodus and even Uprising. I love all Bob's albums and hold no grudge over the more politically correct Exodus getting all the plaudits. But Confrontation is Marley pristine.
