Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
More polished than ever before, Diana Krall strolls with languorous ease through The Look of Love, effortlessly charting her continuing growth as a sophisticated singer of the popular songbook. She brings to a delightful selection of Latin flavoured standards all of the charm that has so captivated her huge following during the past few years. That audience, especially those who enjoyed her last outing, When I Look In Your Eyes, will delight in this CD. There may be a little less of Diana's own piano playing than some fans might like, but the accompaniment, mainly from the London Symphony Orchestra, is flawless. Throughout, the lush strings, arranged by Claus Ogerman, are spiced by the addition of a handful of jazz players among which is Diana's long time musical associate, guitarist Russell Malone. Here and there a gentle touch of Latin percussion is added, bringing a pleasing hint of rhythmic urgency but for the most part this is laid-back, relaxed music making of a very high order. --Bruce Crowther

It Will Go To Your Head
Although Diana Krall might not be first choice for the best jazz singer in the world she still manages to drip her lyrics like honey over the already sumptuous arrangements in this collection of standards. Her vocals are at once languid and precise, distant and intense and when added to the bittersweet, fully orchestral back-ups, it all comes together in a most intoxicating way. A definite grower; for the impatient listener a first take might be their last but with subsequent plays, the nuances blossom until you realise that you are hearing something rather special.
This works!
This was my first Diana Krall album. It is brilliant. Her voice and her piano playing mark this out as a hauntingly beautiful album. Like all really good artists she is capable of making albums that don't work. This is an album where it does work, beautifully. She is at her best singing covers and the songs she has chosen on this album are rather good in their own right! Enjoy.
Amazing, as always
I just love Diana Krall so rate this CD highly. Her amazing jazz piano talent may not be so evident on this but the songs and the arrangements suit her voice nevertheless... great listening, either as background music for a dinner party or relaxing to on your own.
