a night to remember 4
Wrestlemania 17,2001,in houston, texas, over 65,000 fans going crazy, hype flowing all over the shop, what would happen?i shall tell you,a superb event happened,a pay per view of gigantic scope pretty much all realised.
The event started with the intercontiental championship up for grabs,a black eyed william regal going up against the champ chris jericho. This was a lively opener, highly charged, vengeful and an attitude brewing that ensured this was a good match, just what we wanted then.
A six man tag was up next, the APA and tazz against three members of right to censor, this wasnt a classic, believe me,but it was a good brawl, short but effective, this kept people on their toes.
Next up was a triple threat match for the hardcore title (how we miss that division),the champ raven went up against kane and the big show and this match was very good indeed, certainly the first classic of the night. The three men went everywhere here, raven tried to escape in a wee golf cart car, that was funny, blood spilled, smashmouth style was order of the day but it was all delivered so well, raven fired through a glass window, and a legdrop finish of the stage ,plenty to think about here but what a match.
The WWE european title was up for contestion next, the champ test went up against eddie guerrero,i aint gonna say that this was a classic either dear readers but i enjoyed it,a very good ending meant that i look back on this fondly.
Kurt angle went up against chris benoit next in a match that was billed as the match of the submission move specialists, oddly it didnt end by submission, anyway, this was a classic,i really enjoyed this, two men who were wrestling icons busting their hump trying to outdo the other and it truth little seperated them,a real classic in my mind.
The womans title was up for grabs next, the champ ivory,of the right to censor, went up against chyna, this match didnt last long enough to bore and was certainly very one sided but i thought it was hunky dory and that is an uncommon saying from myself so enjoy it while it lasts.
A streetfight followed, shane mcmahon was pitted against his father vince with stephanie and linda mcmahon on hand ,linda was in a coma like stance at this point, not the best storyline they ever did but it was fun enough. This match was great,i really believed their hatred for one another,it was very brutal and certainly very smashmouth like it its approach,a tremendous finisher meant that there is plenty to dissect here should you need a conversation starter.
Next up was the WWF tag team title match and it was a tables, ladders and chairs match, the teams were comprised of the hardy boyz, the dudleys and edge and christian, this match was stunning,i cant find the words to do this match justice and i wont try but you have to see this match before you meet your maker in heaven, trust me there.
A gimmick battle royale followed with 18 men i think, these were old icons, legends and bad ideas thrown together,in one sense it was good to see some and in another way it was a bit desperate, bobby heenan and mean gene took commentary here and they were poor,it was as if they had never worked together in their lives which was odd,as for the match,it was all over in the blink of an eye but at least it made me think back to a different era of the WWF,and that was a simplier time, sob sob.
The undertaker and triple H were pitted against one another next, this wasnt an instant classic,i have reflected on it and it certainly wasnt bad but there was something missing, both men would have better wars, there was some sublime moves featured and good aggression showcased but it wasnt quite the match of their lives.
The main event was next and it was brilliant,a real classic,a match that is talked about to this day,a real belter, the champ, the rock going up against stonecold steve austin, this match was one we all wanted to see,a match so hyped that even eskimoes knew about it,and it delivered and then some and had one of the most shocking endings i have ever seen, stunning.
The event wasnt 100 percent in terms of perfection but it wasnt far of it,4 stars,i rate this very highly.

Wrestlemania X7 was the "grandaddy of them all!"5
To this day this Wrestlemania is fondly remembered as the greatest of all time. My 1'st Mania and to me it is the greatest. The matches that stick out are as follows:
TLC2 - Fantastic match. Whenever these teams got together it was just magic in the ring. The suprise twist of having outside interference from someone ascociated with each team was very well received. Highlight of the match goes to Edge's spear to Jeff Hardy. Match rating 9/10

Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit - As always with these two it was a classic. Pure wrestling at it's best. Two guys given the time to just go out there and tear the house down. They did exactly that and this match and in my oppinion, proved there is an audience for much more mat and submission based style wrestling, in the WWE. Match slightly let down by the cheap finish. Match rating 8/10

Triple H vs The Undertaker - One of the runaway highlights of the card, this match was an amazing fight. Fought all around the ring and into the large Houston crowd, this was an amazing back and forth effort put forward by both. Match rating 9/10

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock - Still my favourite championship match ever, this one had it all. Two incredibly popular stars who were not just amazing wrestlers but entertainers. The run up to the match was first class. The two tore the house down in what many wrestling historians refer to as the peak of the attitude era. The near falls were electrifying and these two were at their very best. Phenomenal match. Wrestlemania main event that may never be bettered. Match rating 10/10

Wrestlemania X-Seven5
Wrestlemania X-Seven - Houston, we have a problem...

What a fantastic Wrestlemania this is, definitely the best WWE/F PPV ever made! Eleven matches, six titles, all combine to make one phenomenal night. Every WWE/F fan should buy this DVD!!

1. WWF Intercontinental Title: William Regal vs Chris Jericho (c)
A very good opening match which really got the crowd warmed up. Regal dominated for most of the match, but Jericho proved he is fantastic by overcoming the odds and retaining his title. Solid, back-and-forth match which is worth checking out. 7/10

2. 6-Man Tag Match: Tazz & The APA vs The Right To Censor
This match was fast-paced and entertaining and all, but it never seemed to fit into the PPV. Faarooq didn't get to wrestle much, nor did anyone particularly except Bradshaw who cleaned house after getting the tag. Short and sweet match, but could have been longer. It wasn't the worst match of the night, though. 6/10

3. WWF Hardcore Title: Raven (c) vs Kane vs Big Show
I don't think any good part of the match took place in the ring! What a Hardcore Match this is, and so early on in the card. These three men fight through the crowd, backstage and eventually on the Wrestlemania X-Seven stage. This match proved why WWF Hardcore action is fun to watch. The ending is also fantastic! 9/10

4. WWF European Title: Eddie Guerrero vs Test (c)
Although it had a pretty lame storyline, it was an enjoyable match. Test is the fan-favorite in this match as well! Very surprised at that because this is the only match I've seen where he isn't a heel. These two superstars impressed me in this contest - but the crowd seemed bored, although I could be wrong. Why should they be bored when you have such great matches on the card? 7/10

5. Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit
Two outstanding competitors in a very physical, technical, mat-based encounter. This is regarded as Match 10 in Wrestlemania's 10 Greatest Matches (on Wrestlemania XX DVD) and I'm not surprised why. These two awesome superstars prove why they deserve to be WWF Champion. Very entertaining and unpredictable, but the ending spoils the match slightly. 9/10

6. WWF Women's Title: Ivory (c) vs Chyna
A squash match! This was in my opinion, the worst match on the card but it was still fun to watch Chyna completely dismantle Ivory. Chyna executes three powerful moves and easily gets the pinfall. No more I can say, really. 6/10

7. Street Fight: Shane McMahon vs Vince McMahon
Talk about one odd family! This match was so entertaining you could cut it with a knife! In order: both men fight for a bit; Shane attempts a GARGANTUAN elbow drop off the turnbuckle onto the announce table but misses! Trish Stratus comes out with Linda McMahon in her wheelchair; Trish tries to help Vince but slaps him and gets into a catfight with Stephanie McMahon. Vince takes out Mick Foley (the referee in the match) with a chair; drags Linda to the ring while he beats up Shane with Trashcans. Then, Linda rises from the corner and nails Vince in the groin!! Shane then gets a Trashcan and hits a superb Missile Dropkick on Vince for the win! Super match. 9/10

8. WWF Tag Team Titles TLC II Match: Edge & Christian vs The Hardy Boyz vs The Dudley Boyz (c)
My absolute favorite Wrestlemania match of all time! There is no contest which could match the standards of this brilliant encounter! Everyone is a victim, including Spike Dudley, Rhyno and Lita who try and help their respective teams. Starts as a free-for-all, then it gets ugly pretty quick. You can tell from the title that it truly gives Wrestlemania it's name. It proves that Wrestlemania is global. A.W.E.S.O.M.E!! 11/10

9. The Invitational Legends' Gimmick Battle Royal
Overall, sloppy wrestling but very entertaining and quick. This match included superstars such as: Hillbilly Jim, Michael Hayes, Earthquake, One Man Gang, The Bushwhackers, Nikolai Volkoff and even The Gobbeldy Gooker! My pick (Kamala) did not manage to win unfortunately *sniff*. But it was good to see the Golden Oldies again and especially to hear Mene Gene Okurland and Bobby Heenan on commentary. 8/10

10. Triple H vs Undertaker
A slugfest of a match! This gave Wrestlemania X-Seven another good reason to watch. Both The Game and The Phenom give it their all in this spectacular contest. The ref gets knocked out for about ten minutes, which means only one thing: no rules! Taker wins after a superb finishing move. 9/10

11. WWF Title: Steve Austin vs The Rock (c)
As a treat, the match was made No DQ right at the last minute! This match was simply amazing for a Wrestlemania main event and it proved why Wrestlemania X-Seven is the greatest PPV of all time. It was very enjoyable, very unpredictable and it had a breathtaking ending which no-one would expect. Tremendous match which will be remembered for years to come. 10/10
