Alien vs Predator 2 (AVP2) is the long-awaited sequel to the intense and thrilling spectacle that was Alien vs Predator. If the first game didn't have you jumping with fear, the second is sure to give you that fright. You've just got be strong enough to venture into depths of space once more.

Like the first version, AVP2 plays on the relationships of alien, predator and marine and their very different goals, but unlike the original, it appears there will be an additional three characters to turn your hand to.

The single-player game still looks as fast, scary and merciless. The formula of having three sets of missions from the different species' point of view is still present. While battling through, 21 new single-player levels are still as tough and gruelling as before.

The original was sometimes criticised for its approach to multiplayer gaming. This was only really addressed when the publishers released a gold edition. Here however, there is an abundance of levels--12 to be exact--and they include the usual array of Deathmatch, Species Team Maps and Capture the Flag, as well as the choice of 10 different characters.

With improved weaponry and fighting style--the alien still hasn't got any weapons--the gameplay looks set to be as good as if not better than the original. Couple this with what appears to be impressive graphics and sound--the motion detector bleeps still get you--and you could be in for the one of the biggest games on your PC. --Jason Denwood

What a game!
This game has left me speachless. A fantastic adrenalin rush when feeling a little idle late at night, though not one for kids less than the recommended age. Unless you have real-life military training, you will not survive beyond normal mode without alot of practice. Experience as each of the species?

Alien (Xenomorph) - Eat as many humans and predators as possible in order to keep up your energy to save your queen. The places that you can hide in order to pounce on your prey leave you feeling vulnerable in your own home! Great idea starting as a face hugger; going right through the alien lifecycle.

Predator - You feel near godlike with the powerful weapons and capabilities that you posses.

Marine (Human) - You really have to be brave to play as the marine. I recall having to stop playing late at night because my heart was racing.

The one problem, though, is the excessive loading time. If you are blessed with a DVD drive then use that instead. Initial loading time will be reduced significantly.

A must for any real gamer looking for serious action with a fast PC and 128mb or more memory.

Best of its genre
I always felt short-changed by the original Aliens vs Predator game. It seemed like a pretender to the throne; just a bog standard first person shooter dressed up in costumes from my favourite movies, with an infuriating inability to save in the middle of games. The first thing I felt with AvP2, then, was relief, because not only can you save whenever you want, but this isn't merely an action game cashing in on two film licences. In fact, without getting too pretentious, like the films upon which it is based, the game transcends the medium and becomes an EXPERIENCE.

AvP was spooky. AvP2 is damn scary. The sounds in this one, particularly the use of human voices chattering nervously over the intercom, create an atmosphere most games would die for. The aliens appear sporadically, with little warning, and always from the last hidey hole you'd expect. These aliens are smart. They're smarter than you. And your ammo is always low. This is a game to play in the dark with the lights off and the volume up.

Everything that could be improved has been, and nothing has been lost in the process. Each and every level of this game feels like a real place you're moving through right out of the movies. It stops being a game, actually, as soon as the motion tracker starts to blip the first time. After that it's an intense, pitched battle for your life, with an integrated plotline that spans each three species, yet never feels too scripted as many such games do.

Everything you saw in the movies is here, from people dying on the walls of alien hives, to eggs hatching when you get too close. Each species is clearly delineated, so you actually feel like you're not merely playing a glorified human when playing as alien or Predator.

I'm a big fan of the movies, but I'm also a big fan of this type of game, and am very critical of games which don't match up. AvP did not match up. AvP2 does. Gordon Freeman wouldn't last a minute against anything in this game, but will you? Buy it. Play it. Live it.

I am stunned..
I cannot explain how much i adore this BEAST of a game!!! I'm literally speechless!! The gameplay is brill, and for the game's lifespan? If you play it with pace (which you probably will- I'll explain later) It lasts for ever! You can play as the Alien, the Predadtor and the Marine. With the alien, you have to eat to develop and become a monster of an alien. As predator, you're basically on a manhunt. Decapitate, capture and blow apart marines and aliens. But my fave has to be the Marine...yea, an' i betcha all know why...

The Marine has to be the mother of all three species. The levels are crammed with suspense, and like I said- you have to be suicidal or just plain crazy if you run around like a lost tourist. The atmosphere is just so full of suspence, you can't turn a corner without reloading your shotgun. It's the type of levels that you don't go on after dark... I'll give y'all an example...
You walk into a corridor. It's dark. Two doors lie ahead. One reads CLOSED. You press the door open button and it slides open...youre heart suddenly skips- CALM DOWN! you think. Those blips on your radar are just the doors... Ahead it's dark. You toss a flare to the ground and step into the blue light. As you approach the next door, you hear a scream. You freeze as sounds of slashing and gunshot pierce the silent air. The sound dissapeares as you walk through the door. You are now in a storage room. Cupboards and shelves have been thrown to the ground. A pale yellow light flickers accatioally. A fellow Marine is lying dead on the ground. Covered in blood, slashed to bits. Suddenly there is a crash. You look up ahead. A door has been brutally smashed open, and by the looks of it, it was done by something...big. You don't like the look of that fast-approaching dot on your radar...

The graphics are stunning when put to full performance, and for the weapons themselves? You just can't get bored of the lot of 'em.
I recommened this game for EVERYONE who is both a first-person shooter fan, but also likes to be scared out of their pants.
