Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Eternal Flame: The Best of the Bangles is a re-appraisal of their work following the success fellow girl band Atomic Kitten had with one of their finest works, "Eternal Flame". Who'd have ever thought they'd be grateful to Atomic Kitten, but if it means a return to prominence of one of the finest girl bands of the 1980s, then who's complaining. Looking at this compilation, it is quite surprising how many you actually know - of course there's the mega-hits such as "Eternal Flame", "Manic Monday", "Walk Like an Egyptian" and "Hazy Shade of Winter", but then there's also the not-so-huge-but-still-great tracks such as "If She Knew What She Wants", "Walking down Your Street" and "In Your Room". For Bangles fans this is an essential testament to the way they were; for Atomic Kitten fans, this is how it should be done. --Helen Marquis
Customer Reviews
Three major hits especially Eternal Flame.
Eternal Flame", "Manic Monday", "Walk Like an Egyptian"- 3 mega hits at a time where U2, Micheal Jackson, Whitney, George Micheal were all breathing fire (literally). These tracks are future proof and nearly 20 years on are the reference to this all girl superband. The other tracks well...forget them..they were eclipsed by the Big 3 afore mentioned.
Brilliant
OK, so its "just another compilation" - but its from The Bangles, and even though it contains no big surprises as mentioned in another review - its by the Bangles, one of the greatest Bands ever. The main highlight from this CD (in my humble opinion)Is most probably Following, which is one of the greatest Bangles song. Other great Bangles classics to look out for are Going down to Liverpool, Hero takes a fall, and loads of others. Infact, every single song on the CD is great! Its a must have for any Bangles fan, even if you have most/all of the songs already =0)
A Classic!
On this record end up some of the most classic tunes of the All-Female Rockband the Bangles. Ballads like 'Follwing' and 'Eternal Flame' and Rocker like 'Hazy Shade of Winter' and 'Hero takes a fall' show some of the best vocals ever recorded. There are some rare Bangles tracks like 'Everything i wanted' and 'Where were you when i needed you' as well. All in all a great compilation with tasteful pop/rock music with brains and brawns. A welcome relief for today's music scene. By the way the Bangles are a ROCKBAND not a manufactured girl-group and they play their own instruments and write their own songs. If you like sweet voices, jangly guitars and great songs sung with heart get this record!
If you want to see this Band, wait for their new Record scheduled for End 2001/Beginning 2002. The Bangles new songs are as promising as the classics on this compilation.
