Product Description

The Long Beach Dub Allstars, headed up by the rhythm section from Sublime, returns for another collective effort that effortlessly bridges the gap between dancehall, roots reggae, ska, dub, pop, and R&B. From the pumping ska feel of "Rolled Up" to the atmospheric hip-hop tour de force "Life Goes On", (featuring members of underground rap outfits the Jurassic 5 and Delinquent Habits), this loose collection of like-minded musicians manages to make a cohesive-sounding statementout of an impressive variety of styles. While WONDERS OF THE WORLD visits a variety of musical planets, though, dub is the foremost ingredient throughout, and the Allstars prove adept at the form, providing groove and ambience--the two cornerstones of the style--in equal amounts for a satisfying feel.

If you're fimiliar with sublime...4
This album hails from the post bradley nowels (even though samples of his voice are used in "sunny hours") SKA music scene of long beach. By this time the sound had created intrest from major labels (sublime had signed for one 1 week before bradley's death) as a result this album understandably sounds heavily polished when compared to "robin' the hood" & "40oz to freedom". I do like the songs on this CD but i also think it's quiet poppy and is obviously written with the intent to cater for the mainstream fan base the rest of sublime (bud and eric) knew that their names alone could pull in. As a result it dosn't sound like sublime, which wouldn't be a problem... if you didn't sound so similar.

all in all songs like "sunny hours" feat. will.i.am from the black eyed peas and brad nowels are good, upbeat songs that can put a smile on your face. "wonders dub" 1&2 are good shows of the roots of the bands inspiration as is "grass cloud". "lies" shows that rap and heavy rock riffs have been mixed together for years and to be honest show the holes in this album, it tries to cater for soo much and ends up just seeming ammeture in places.

good album just let down by trying to do too much!

so many genres, so little time.......5
The Long Beach Dub Allstars follow their predecessors Sublime in combining all kinds of music genres in a way that would seem impossible, and returning with an excellent CD. This is a perfect example of that, as we see dub (Wonders Dub), reggae (Listen to DJs), ska-punk (No Way), punk (Every Mother's Dream), hip hop (Life Goes On)and god knows what else blended together. It sounds crazy because it is; nobody else could pull it off. My stand-out tracks are: Sunny Hours, Listen to DJs, Rolled Up, It Ain't Easy, Luke and No Way. This album is also testimony to the fact that Sublime wasnt just Brad Nowell, and there were two other extremely talented musicians (Eric Wilson - bass, Bud Gaugh - drums) in the band as well.I have to say, it's a shame this seven-piece band split up, as they were probably closest to creating the perfect chilled-out, laid-back, lazy, hazy atmosphere of a summer evening on the beach.

A blissfull mix of Homegrown Punk, Dub, Hip Hop, and ska.5
I thought it may be difficult to match the LBDA's previous album "Right Back" and still have the credibility earned by "Sublime," however Wonders of the World contains a far more diverse collection of punk, Dub, Ska and hip hop, whilst still remaining fresh and uplifting. When you listen to Wonders of the World its bouncy and subliminal head bobbing beats become more apparent as you get further into the tracks, despite what may seem to be clashing genres.
Wonders of the World remains fluid throughout, displaying an amazing transition from Sublime (as the LBDA used to be named with front man and lead singer Bradley Nowell). In my view Wonders of the World represents an evolution in the "Long Beach" style (i.e Sublime, Ugly Duckling) yet still remains as accessable as it ever has been before, if not, more so. This album truely encapsulates a great summer, so grab a copy of this, a deck chair and wait (a long time..) for those long summer afternoons....
