Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Given the success of their own soul inspired long-players, Rae & Christian are the most obvious contributors so far to compile a home mix tape of preferred late-night listening for the Another Late Night series. Having previously collaborated with the likes of soul legend Bobby Womack, it's little surprise that vintage funk is their main focus. Starting from the imposing horns of Trendsetter's "Heavy Worker", every ghetto strut from sleazy disco (Joshua's "Come On") to Latin boogaloos (Aromadozeski Therapy's "Strudel Strut") via easy down-tempo (Riton's "Put That On My Momma") and hi-tech electro (Mr Scruff's mix of Capoeira Twins "Four") is covered on route to a glorious climax with flamenco guitarist Jose Feliciano's aching cover of the Mamas and the Papas classic "California Dreaming". With so much funk and so many break beats on offer, this third instalment of Another Late Night is as much a gift to disillusioned hip-hop heads as it is dance-floor weary clubbers in search of something stylish to unwind to. Low slung and wilfully eclectic, it's also every inch a Rae & Christian album. --Dan Gennoe
Customer Reviews
a wonderful medley of funk, hip hop and soul
An album not only as it says (for the late nights when you get home at 5 in the morning) but also for the summer.
The intro is almost straight out of a blaxploitation flick, and then it follows up with the funky drums and trumpets of "copenhagen claimin respect" track which sets your mood straight up into the "feeling good zone".
Tracks like "take ya time" are like powerfully romantic dance injections direct to the heart, with the funky hip hop break complemented beautfully by the trumpet ensemble sample from Shirley Basseys' cover of The Doors "light my fire".
The final track is the best cover i've heard of The Mamas and the Papas "california dreamin" if not better. Jose Felicianos' voice almost makes you cry it oozes so much romance and soul backed by his hispanic guitar and soft string section.
Buy it if you know what funky is about!
Must Have
This is an EXCELLENT collection of tunes from top drawer GrandCentral duo Rae and Christian. It's chilled but always upbeat, energized but never manic. It's eclectic but stays focused, it's 100% funky with a little pinch of latino to take you home. Fantastico! Don't think - Buy! Buy Buy
Another funky late night
This is a true collection of funky grooves and compliments the other titles already in this collection. Rae and Christian provide some real class tracks ranging from hip hop, soul, disco and finish with a brilliant track from the one and only Jose Feliciano.
Thanks Rae and Christian for providing another funky late night.
