Amazon.co.uk Review
Garth Brooks' Scarecrow is a decidedly patchy offering. Nearly a decade ago, Brooks's ability to incorporate 1970s pop material and arena-rock into his act made history (and controversy) as he propelled country to its pinnacle of success. One fact remains in 2001: When he simply rears back and sings (in the spirit of longtime pal Chris LeDoux), the results are often fresh and natural. That's the case on the Beatles-esque "Wrapped Up in You", "Thicker than Blood" and the trite but catchy blue-collar bopper "Big Money". Alas, that slicker, more calculated material is never far away. Awash in melodrama, "The Storm" (a bathos-ridden variant on "The Thunder Rolls"), "Mr Midnight," and "Pushing Up Daisies" each run four-plus minutes and seem longer. The hyperactive bluegrass romp "Don't Cross the River" seems less homage than a nod to the successful O Brother soundtrack. While duets with George Jones and Trisha Yearwood have merit, one wonders who really needs whom. All this might have been cutting edge in 1992. Now it simply seems long in the tooth. --Rich Kienzle

CD Description
After his head-scratching masquerade as a fictional rocker and a heavily publicised early retirement from show business, most folks thought that the Garth Brooks era in country music was over. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Nashville, here comes SCARECROW, a confident return to form for Brooks. Having apparently gotten that nasty rock thingout of his system, he returns to the wide-screen, Springsteen-with-spurs brand of pop-country that made him a mega-starin the '90s. The first album of new Garth Brooks tunes of the 21st century pretty much picks up where records like ROPIN' THE WIND and NO FENCES left off. There's even a light-hearted duet with honky-tonk legend George Jones on "Beer Run" for any who were doubtful about Brooks's return to country music. The rest of SCARECROW is made up of power ballads, high-energy roadhouse romps (most notably the Trisha Yearwood duet on "Squeeze Me In", and the singular pop/rock/country paradigm upon which Nashville based the marketing plans of a thousand lesser imitators.

Classic Garth!!!!5
This is Garth's best album since 'No Fences'- an excellent mix of ballads an up-tempo country rockers. There is something for everyone on this album and no country fan should ignore this. Good one Garth!! - Now get back on the road.

goes to the heart, with a touch of muscles and great lirycs.4
This the third album I have bougth from Garth Brooks, and yet the best one I feel. The songs are well writen, meaningfull, and strong.
I find this new helping less "commercial" compared to his previous effort (good one too!).The music itself is well played, with good melodies, and the duet is absolutly fantastic.
If you're looking for relaxation, stormy music and a little feeling of love, well go ahead and invest some of your cash. JC.

About time Garth!5
Scarecrow is Garths first cd for 4 years following Sevens. And for those of you, who like me thought Sevens was one of his best albums and would be damm hard to top, Garth proved us wrong. Highlights include 'Wrapped Up In You' a catchy and great song whihc brings with it the culmination of country and pop, 'Why Ain't I Running' and 'The Storm' which are classic Garth. Clearly one of, if not his best cd, a great example of contmeptary country and Garth Brooks immense talent.
