Customer Reviews
A must for old and new fans alike
Cover Up is a long awaited studio album from the Birmingham based reagge band. The album contains fourteen new tracks and is reminisant of some of the bands earlier music.Sparkle of my Eye is the first single to be released from the album and as usual the melodies between Ali and Robin Campbell excel. There is a different version of Since I Met You Baby on the album than the single which I personally feel is better.Walk On Me Land shows Ali's voice may even be improving with age.
The songs range from slower tracks to the upbeat "Rudie" and thought provoking title song Cover Up. A must for any fans collection, and a welome addition to the newcomer.
A Fantastic Return to Form from the UBs
Not since 1993's Promises and Lies have UB40 sounded so exuberant and up-for-it. This album is as lush, authentic and as exquisitely performed and produced as ever, with some class self-composed songs such as the barnstorming "Rudie" and the stunning title track. And, in "Sparkle of My Eye," UB40 record their first decent cover version since the heady days of Labour of Love II. A great comeback, and long-awaited.
UB40'S SECRET ALBUM!
Well you ask anyone if they knew UB40 had a new album out, did they know? 'cover up' is a return to form for UB40.Although Labour of love III had some nice tunes on it, it wasn't as good as the other two. Guns in the ghetto had some outstanding tunes but some very ordinary ones too. From the opening horns of Rudie, you settle back into your foot-tapping with expectancy and UB40 don't disappoint. Walk on me land is exceptional with great lyrics and belly busting bass in the dub version! Brian Travers, the saxaphonist excels himself with the lyrics to the title track Cover up,... 'gotta be safe if you wanna be free, to sit in the shade of a family tree'....mmmm, scrumptious. Cover up is, of course, their new AIDS awareness single which got absolutely no publicity at all. Nelly furtado's doing a version so it may get heard after all. Lady Saw's in fine form with her contribution on 'since i met you lady'..a great single, no-one heard! The day i broke the law sees some exceptional vocals from Ali..Buy the cd and appreciate the good things in life!
