What a shame !1
The sound of my generation on one 3 CD set. Brilliant.
Then, of course, it has to be digitally re-mastered. I assume that the person tasked with doing this has never heard these tracks before. Thanks to modern technology the bass part of the sound has all but disappeared. Gone are thrilling bass guitar intros, fat sax solos and the general under-pinning of one of the greatest studio sounds of all time.
How can one play this to the current generation and explain that this tinny sound allied with these trebly vocals inspired the youth of the 'sixties ?
Could it be that the current owners of this outstanding catalogue simply saw releasing this as a money making exercise ? Perish the thought.
After only one listening the set was relgated to the car. It only lasted once there, too !
What a shame !

Great Selection, Nasty Sound3
Yes, everything people have said is true: it's a great selection of tracks at a very reasonable price. BUT the digital remastering has left the sound thin, over-bright, and harsh. Much of the warmth, charm, or downright energy of these tracks has been lost.

Frankly, a bit of a hatchet job, and whoever supervised the production of this set should be ashamed: it's desecration of the Motown SOUND.

tamla motown bronze2
Although this is a 3 disc compilation the real "gold" tracks could easily have fitted onto one or two discs. The first C.D. starts of with a few early obscure numbers gradually getting to the "hits" after track 7.
The second disc is a big improvement with most of the big numbers that we know and love that makes this compilation almost worth buying. Unfortunately the third disc goes downhill again as it's mainly filled with Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross numbers. I'm sure you can buy better Tamla Motown compilations than this.
