Amazon.co.uk Review
Mahogany Soul perfectly describes the rich, deep, and lived-in music Angie Stone makes. This veteran singer/songwriter, who was one-third of rap trio Sequence, led acid-jazz combo Vertical Hold, and had a major hand in creating D'Angelo's Brown Sugar, follows up 1999's critically acclaimed Black Diamond with another collection of grown-up R&B that's sexy, satisfying, and smart. Along with (wo)manning the helm herself, Stone links up with like-minded visionaries. Chief among them are Raphael Saadiq, who produced the single "Brotha" which moves with a purposeful, rugged, old-soul swagger, and Andrea Martin, co-producer with Swizz Beatz on the vibrant and aching "Wish I Didn't Miss You" which features a dope "Backstabbers" loop and Stone's husky vocals. At 17 cuts, there's a bit of drag, but not enough to deter you from Stone's wise and determined ease, and on the gritty "Twenty Dollars" Stone gives all those R&B princesses something to really chew on. --Amy Linden

CD Description
Follow up to her 1999 platinum debut 'Black Diamond', nu-soul diva Stone's 'Mahogany Soul', features collaborations with Musiq Soulchild on 'Ingredients Of Love', Raphael Saadiq on 'Brotha' and a tribute to legend Curtis Mayfield in the form of a cover of 'Makings Of You'.

Customer Reviews

gorgeous soul that you just cant get out of your head5
I hadn't heard anything of Angie Stone but as I was browsing through amazon at other artists that I have purchased albums of, such as India Arie , Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, I came across Angie's name and its rave reviews. I have to say I agree. Smooth soul with a bit of an edge, the lyrics and the music are equally beautiful, one of the best being 'Wish I Didn't Miss You' which I cant get enough of.
If you like good music (not just the soul lovers out there), buy this album.

Pure Mahogany Soul5
Despite some bad reviews, I would be hard pressed to pick out a bad track on this album. Every song has the power to draw you in, and 'The Heat' only goes further to demonstrate how you can be simple and deep at the same time. This album really means something. You just need to want to hear it!

you could pull each track apart and reveal diamonds of instrumentals, and pearls of wisdom from Angie's lyrics. Spend a quiet moment alone with this album, and when you realise its brilliance share it with a friend.

Class5
Ms. Stone has really lain down the gauntlet on her sophomore. Whereas her debut CD was classy this has just a little more oomph and panache. I was totally blown away and I remeber being just half-way through it on my first listen and phoning my brother in law telling him to listen to Snowflakes and how this album was superb.

To have a song like Pissed off on an album would need some bravery and she pulls it off with verve and great spirit. By now I was going crazy. Makings of you was more than a tribute to the master Curtis, it captures the essence of this killer track in a more contemporary setting. Alicia and Eve get a run out and there is even an hidden 18th track to get your teeth into. There are many other great tracks to get your teeth into like 20 dollars, mad issues but I could rant on all day.

Angie keep it coming like this and I am sure that you will have many fans rushing to get a piece of you.
