WHAT ABOUT YOU? - JUST BUY IT!!
This is an essential real funk collection for anybody out there who likes a bit of funk already or is thinking about dabbling.
All the tracks are good but the stand out for me is 'What about you (in the world today)' which is extraordinary alone for being just vocals and drums. The track is so funky that I didn't even notice the absence of other instruments until the 4th or 5th listen!(who needs over produced modern soul/r&b with multi layered instruments??). I honestly don't think anybody would be disappointed with this album. If they are shoot them!
Funking classic
A rather neat idea to expose the lesser known funky bands in the USA by producing an album that will give these bands a fair share in sales. That alone gets a thumbs up from me. I own the Funk Spectrum trilogy, which I love to death. (Look for Funk Spectrum 1, 2 and 3 separately). This album is on par with those ones, although the one major difference is that where as the Funk Spectrum albums have a variation and allow the user to recover from amazing tracks with a selection of less dirty in your face tracks. This CD though is in your face all the time. That is not a bad thing, but without a little variation it can become a little ‘samey’.
The standout track is the on the album is named after, but the others are just as good., I agree with the other reviewers that this album is brilliant, but as I like a tadge more variation in a compilation I have to knock a star off of it. I’d recommend the fast selling out Funk Spectrum Series if you like a bit of a mix of styles, otherwise this is a sound purchase.
puts the funk into funky!
i'm more of a modern dj shadow type of music fan, but i felt i had to buy this cd just cos they had such a cool name. and after listening to it (even the first time, it took me 2 or 3 listens to 'entroducing' and like minded david holmes productions to trully appreciate its brilliance),but i'll admitt i was ashamed of myself for pigeon holeing my music tastes, and missing out on quality which is played for the full length of this trully magic cd. Yes there is a lot of good music to be bought right now, but take a turn away from commercialism and buy somthing trully special, i can guarantee that anyone with a open minded view to musical talent will love this album.
