Customer Reviews
Better late than never!
I have had this album for over a year and have only just got round to writing a review for it. its brilliant! this is one of my favourite albums in my collection, i bought it after i heard rollout and of course area codes and i have not been disapointed.
not only is the music second to none, the comedy is pure genius, well as far as album comedy goes, even after having it since it came out i am still finding favourite songs off it, 'freaky thangs' is a superb song with brilliant lyrics and pace, this could be a serious contender for making babies to!! 'keep it on the hush' is another guddun, so to is 'get the f**k back', 'block lockdown' and 'coming to america'. 'growing pains' is also one of my faves, has been since the first time a heard it.
i do however have bad things to say about it, a small (and i do mean small) klump of the songs seem too repetetive, like 'move b*tch' the chorus is very boring, and the same with 'go 2 sleep'. the 3 songs between 'rollout' and the 'howhere' skit seem to drag on too long, but this doesn;t mean they aren't worth listening to, as the lyrics are very good.
Ludacris and his featured artists have done brilliantly with the lyrics to this album, just listen to them, they all make sense, unlike other rappers, and Luda has a different flava to others, he isn't all depressed and mouthing off about how he shoots so many people, he just raps about what he wants to rap about, and has a laugh while doing it
if you like the singles get it, if you don't like em, then you really should get it anyway!
Fun Hip Hop
This album was on my car stereo for 2 weeks solid when I was over in the States recently. Brilliant album. Humour funky sounds great lyrics on every track. One of the best albums in my collection.
Dope, funny too!
I admit, I underestimated Ludacris in the past, friends who told me they liked him I said, "No, I don't do Ludacris". But when Luda released 'Area Codes' and 'Rollout', he started growing on me and I suddenly had the urge to get 'Word Of Mouf'. Which obviously I did. I have not regretted it either because it is a good album both in the production and lyrically. I have come to know Ludacris' style, another comedy/gangster rapper, not as offensive as Eminem, but tighter than Redman.
The real element that makes 'Word of mouf' shine is the humour; you will get laughs out of this album within the first 4 seconds of the first track (I won't spoil that). The one track that stands out the most humour wise is 'Cry Babies', just listen to Luda's verses, they are funny because they are so smart. The skits are funny too, although some will find 'Greatest Hits (skit)' very racist.
But there is one criticism I must make. The album lacks originality, the themes of all the tracks aren't things we've never heard before; hoes, seduction, goin' out and don't-mess-wit-us seem to be the predomenent themes. This doesn't make the album worse, but just might be that Ludacris could do something original on his next album to make it be an improvement on this one.
But anyone who liked his debut album will definitely be buzzin' off this one, and anyone who hasn't heard any of his albums but like his singles will be buzzin' off this too.
