great event 4
You want hype, well for a large part of 2001,after wrestlemania 17 in particular and for the next four months or so the wwf as it was then came under attack from athletes from wcw and ecw as these companies were bought over by shane and stephanie mcmahon,(kayfabe),so the rivalry between the stars had now got physical and for many this was a dream come true, even though vince mcmahon had his paw prints on each and every star on the show, the hype was now going to be realised or sink,my verdict?it was realised.
The event has been criticised for being very pro wwf, what the heck do you expect,if vince cant be a bit smug after seeing ecw fold and buying over wcw after the near collaspe of his company years earlier then i dont know when he could be smug.Another point of contention lay in the wcw/ecw talent on show here, people said that these guys didnt represent the cream of the crop, such as sting, the nwo, hogan, flair, steiners, sting, tommy dreamer, sandman,i could go on,and with that point i cant really argue but these bigger stars didnt want to do it so let that argument rest and concentrate on those who stepped up to represent the legacy of their companies.
The night started in front of a very pro wwf crowd and two pro wwf commentators so the opposition had alot to do to gain respect and that was achieved with a great opening match between edge and christian who went up against lance storm and mike awesome(RIP),this match was high octane stuff with aggression, speed, and precision, christians botched move aside this got the place jumping and we were off and running.
A wwf ref in earl hebner went up against a former nwo ref nick patrick, anyone remember when he fought chris jericho in the mid 90s,im just showing off, sorry, anyway, this match had mick foley as special guest ref and this match didnt bother me at all,i was cheering earl on almost and when this was done i thought decent enough.
Next up was the Acolytes who went up against sean o'haire,(should have been treated with more respect by wwe) and chuck, this match was good as well,i felt that chuck and ohaire worked well together and we all know that bradshaw and faarooq did so the chemistry was all there and this was a good match.
The return to the wwf at the time of former nwo member x-pac caused outrage, but even he was cheered as he went up against the very talented billy kidman, once of ravens flock i believe, this was a very good match as well, some good moves, the odd mistake but some clever moves to work with the mistake meant that this match is hard to fault, kidman has left the wwe two or three years now and is still someone i wouldnt mind seeing back.
Next up was the first dull match of the night, the crowd lay the blame at the feet of william regal primarily as he fought raven, but this is an injustice,a travesty i tell thee, regal has a european background, uses his knees and elbows alot, whats wrong with that, the problem in fact lay with the tepid and bored looking stance of raven who would probably have preferred to have needles stuck in his eyes than be in the ring on that night,he was a joke,im ashamed of him, interference helped give this match a touch of interest back, but i blame regal not.
In terms of being wcw icons or legends none of the three who made up the wwfs rivals in a six man tag fit that bill in any way,but as shawn stasiak, hugh morrus and chris kanyon went up against the big show, billy gunn and albert something dawned on me,these lads had something to prove to a crowd scratching their heads and thinking of a nice headline for the dirtsheets, anyway the trip in question did well against more established rivals who didnt quite gel on the night, again a solid match so put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Tajiri who pledged his allegiance to wwf went up against tazz who did the opposite thing next in a rapid enough match, not the best match of tazzs career but these guys have wrestled before and the quality was there, the outcome had the crowd dancing away, good again then.
The only title of the night that could change hands was contested next and was for the hardcore championship, the 23 month holder of ecws television title rob van dam going up against the hardcore champion jeff hardy. This match was so good that time wont forget it,so much happened that i could write a book if i felt the need, high risk moves,so fast that you would be best watching in slow motion, the detail, the precision, the execution,it was all here, ladders, blood, the works, class match, class, certainly the match of the night, hands down.
Mick foley returned as guest ref for the bra and panties match which was also a tag match, trish and lita formed an uneasy truce as they went up against torrie and stacey, where was the lovely beulah, anyone?,anyway, this match was decent enough, some good work and the crowd were cheering like it was the end of the world, not great but watchable,oh behave!
Next up was the main event, team wcw/ecw who were made up of booker t,diamond dallas, rhyno and the dudleys against team wwf who had in their ranks, stone cold, kurt angle, chris jericho, kane and the undertaker, this wasnt a survivor series match by the way,one fall won it,it was epic,a little clumsy at times as we cant see all the individual wars, this was chaotic, the ref lost all of his battles as calm was never maintained and that made for some great moments, the mamahons got onvolved, kurt angle lost his lid and went mad,and the ending was truly shocking, never saw that coming indeed which is always a good thing.
The invasion pay per view became a one off and rightly so but this was a great event that had its fair share of criticism but deserved more praise than it got.

A good novelty DVD3
This was the first PPV when the WWF vs WCW/ECW invasion was just kicking off. It's a classic DVD to have in that sense but the wrestling in the show is not great.

Good 5 man main event with an ending which surprised me at the time, a fun hardcore match where RVD got to show off what he could do for the first time in a hardcore match, a decent crusierweight match and a good opening match is the only good wrestling from this show. The rest of it has bad matches including guys who were unproven and didnt deserve to be on WWF PPV eg. Hugh Morrus, Shawn Stasiak.

Overall though its probably worth the money just to have a look at the start of a storyline that promised so much but failed to deliver without big names stars from WCW like Ric Flair, Sting, Goldberg etc

The night that changed everything5
All I can say is wow what a night. It was a night of awsome battles between team WCW/ECW and team WWF I was left in complete shock with the end of the Inaugural Brawl and im positive nobody could've predicted the end to this one, 10 of wrestlings greatest superstars battling it out to find out which brand is the best. among the matches are a tremendous match for the hardcore title and a first referee vs referee match. It is a night full of surprises and shouldn't be left out of any WWf/e fan's dvd collection truly spectacular!!!
