Customer Reviews
The WWF and the Alliance start to fall apart
WCW Tag Team Title Match
The Hardy Boyz vs Lance Storm and Hurricane Helms 6/10
A decent enough opener that felt a bit short.
Test vs Kane 6/10
I thought this match was going to be slow and boring but it was quite fast and powerful.
Intercontinental Title Ladder Match
Edge vs Christian 10/10
WOW match of the night (I think so anyway).
First Ever Lingerie Match
Stacy Keibler vs Torrie Wilson 3/10
I think you know the score by now two women prancing around the ring dressed in lingerie.
WWF Tag Team Title Match
The Dudley Boyz vs Tajiri and Big Show 4/10
A fun tag match but not the best tag match the Dudleys have featured in.
The Undertaker vs Booker T 5/10
An average match that could have done so much more.
WCW World Title Match
The Rock vs Chris Jericho 10/10
Finally Jericho gets a shot a the big one and what a great opponent he gets. This match is emotionally and physically charged.
WWF World Title Triple Threat Match
Steve Austin vs Kurt Angle vs Rob Van Dam 7/10
This match could have done so much more and the storyline behind it was messy.
ladders, chairs and grudges, it's all good.
One of the top ppvs of the year, although some matches didn't live up to their standards. Here are my personal ratings of each match:
The Hardy Boyz vs. Lance Storm + The Hurricane.(WCW Tag Team Title match).
A great opener, considering that this match was pretty much thrown together at the last minute. Momentum shifts from side to side very often for extra suspense.
7/10
Kane vs. Test
Again a mediocre match, ruined by some terrible refferie decisions favouring Test. But bekieve you me, Kane gets his own back!
7/10
1st Ever Lingerie Match
Torrie Wilson vs. Stacey Kiebler
Terrible, awful, an insult to wrestling, even the lingerie isn't all that good!
-10/10
Ladder Match (I.C Title)
Edge vs. Christian
Exactly the opposite of the previous match, non-stop action all the way. These two have conjured up some great ladder matches together, now see how they do against each other.
10/10
Dudley Boyz vs. Big Show + Tajiri (WWE Tag Team Titles).
Alright, but could have been better, pretty much a filler match.
5/10.
Undertaker vs. Booker T.
3 years before they collided at Judgement Day, they met in a rematch from Smackdown. Overall, a perfectly decent match.
7/10
The Rock vs. Chris Jericho (WCW Championship)
These two superstars definitely gave it their all, some dirty tricks were involved, but that didn't stop their determination.
9/10
Stone Cold vs. RVD vs. Kurt Angle (WWE Title).
After all the hype behind this match, I was really disappointed.
Even though the match was made 'no disqualification', it just didn't live up to its supposed standards.
7/10
While showing his opponents No Mercy...
2001 was overall a great year for the WWF and No Mercy was one of the best PPV events of the year. The highlights of the card were the much-touted Rock vs. Chris Jericho match (which ended up being voted the Best Match of the Year in several magazines. I don't think that it was QUITE as good as people made out but I think it was definatly a **** star match - a worthy payoff to the excellent feud leading up to the match. Rock and Jericho have had other matches since - but none have lived up to this initial bout) and the Ladder match for the Intercontinental Title between *brothers* Edge and Christian. This match is, I think, very overlooked by a lot of fans who feel the Ladder match gimmick has been overused in recent years. I would agree with them on that - but not to the extent of making this match look bad. It is an excellent bout with a LOT of brutal spots in it. It does't live up to the Jericho vs. Benoit Ladder match from earlier in the year (see the Royal Rumble 2001) and no-where near the outstanding Ladder match from Wrestlemania X but it still is a great bout. The other matches on the card are good - though not great. The main event is entertaining - although it can't be seen as anything more than a *** match. None of the three men pull out anything special for it and the ending is irritating due to how convoluted it is. However it does have at least ONE excellent moment in it (With Angle out of the ring following a stunner and Austin down from a chair-shot, RVD goes up-top and gets ready to nail a Five-Star on Austin - I thought he'd win the Title and prove my prediction wrong!!!) and the Triple Threat stipulation is entertaining enough. Undertaker vs. Booker T is also average - although the wrong man won it. How can the WWF push a 40-year-old man over a 5-time ("1, 2, 3, 4, 5-time!!!") WCW Champion - it makes no sense. They also recycle the ending to the Undertaker/HHH match from Wrestlemania X-Seven. Both the Tag Championship matches are also average - both fun and by no means boring but not as good as the four-way Tag Title match from Unforgiven 2001 one month prior to No Mercy. Kane vs. Test is fun - a GOOD big-man match that is quite fun to watch with LOTS of near-falls - and the Lingerie match is EXCELLENT. I LOVE STACY KIEBLER!!!!! *ahem* anyway - No Mercy is a good PPV. Lots of average (yet fun) matches but a few real gems in there.
