The intellegent woman's toning DVD
I have a large collection of fitness DVDs and workout to them at home at least 5 times a week. Although I'm now relativey fit, I still need to get rid of about 1.5 - 2 stone to reach my ideal healthy weight range. Often I put together segments from different DVD fitness programmes to make up a whole ballanced workout that doesn't bore me.
What I liked about 'Bodyshape Solution'.
1) It's a cheap DVD!
2) This is the only DVD in my fitness collection where the trainer actually went through the effort of explaining:
a) why you need to do this exercise
b) how it will benefit you
c) exactly how you should do it
d) the problems which could result by doing it incorrecty
3) I thought both the trainer, Sarah McClurey and the presenter, Fioba Phillips, can across as sincere and intelligent. Fiona asked the same sorts of questions I would have asked if I had access to a personal trainer.
What I didn't like:
a) The whole 'bodyshape solution' idea promotes an urban myth that you can 'spot reduce' any part of your body. In fact, if you don't lose the weight first, toning the fat bits isn't going to help. The 'apple' section of the DVD focused on doing more abdominal work and was just a repeat of the general ab work in another part of the video.
b) The cardio bit was very short and ineffective. I've done it three times now and at no point did I break out into a sweat. It was comparable to the 'warm-up' sections on most of my other fitness DVDs. The aerobic workout is very simple and easy-to-follow for beginners. But the same routine is simply repeated twice.
So I do recommend this DVD? Yes, but for particular reasons, and not as a 'stand-alone' fitness solution. I recommend it to any beginner interested in toning up flabby areas who wants a 'virtual personal trainer'. There is lots of good advice here.
I do not recommend it for anyone who has a lot of weight to lose. No matter where you carry your excess body fat, you will need a high cardio workout to get rid of it.
Its working
I bought this DVD 4 weeks ago and have actually been doing it every morning before work. I am starting to tone and am targeting my areas that need toning. The only thing that lets the dvd down a little bit is the 20 minute cardio section which is not as energetic as I need. In saying that though the warm up section is great and the special section for your body shape really works. The warm down at the end of the video is so enjoyable I do it after my runs in the evenings!
Common sense at last !
Honest advice with honest results, from Sarah McClurey, a very experienced exercise professional, and leder in her field. I have recommended this video to many of my fiends and clients.
