Amazon.co.uk Review
Project IGI, or I'm Going In, is a cross between the old Delta Force games and PlayStation's Metal Gear Solid, giving you a game that involves stealth, fast-paced action and cunning prowess.
Based around 12 gruelling and difficult levels, the aim of the game is to go in, fulfil the mission objectives and get out again.
Entrusted with a handful of weapons and field PDA--very handy, you've got to dodge the cameras and the guards while you complete your mission. Where Project IGI excels is in the detail, whether it's the landscapes or the AI (artificial intelligence) that sees guards running around to attack you from behind rather than run into a hail of bullets and you've got a game that although only 12 missions long will take you some time to complete.
IGI, like Eidos' other title Hitman, has no in-game save, making it a game for hardened gamers looking for that next challenge where the words "I'm Going In" really does mean just that.--Stuart Miles
Customer Reviews
Fustrating, but ultimately rewarding
This is a toughie. When i bought the game, i had already tried it and it did appeal to me. The trouble is - and this will put most people off - is there is no save option in the middle of a mission. I can bare this, but some can't, and it does mean retrying a lot missions and some initial frustration.
On the plus side though, this adds a lot of tension to the game. It can become tiring quickloading all the time. You need to develop a strategy, and plan each mission before you do it, so to work out the best routes. All missions have alternate routes, but most have one that is better than the rest.
Next, the graphics. Although they are not as good as they were at full price release, they still shine. The environments are massive, sometimes you just have to stay in one place and gape at the beautiful mountains - and it you want, walk to them.
The weapons are very good, and quite varied. From the brilliant sniper rifle, to the immensely satisying SPAS-12 shotgun, this game delivers the goods.
There are some other niggles though. This doesn't bother me, but there is no multiplayer option in the game. Which is a shame, as this game is begging for one. Also, due to a lack of funding, there is no support for the game in the way of patches either.
Don't expect anything clever with the enemies either. They are dumbasses, they really are. They can't seem to notice when you shoot the bloke they were talking to right infront of them, but happen to have an impossibly accurate aim with their weapons at times.
Also, one of the worst sins - respawning enemies features heavily at times. If you set the alarm off, expect endless troops to come out replacing the endless troops you just killed. Shame.
But don't let this put you off. The game is excellent value for money, and will keep you playing for a while. Though at times it is frustrating and the niggles can get to you, the overall experience is one of tension and great fun. Just forget about the F5 key.
Project I'm Going In And I'm Staying in
This is one of the finest first person shoot-em ups ever. When you first start to play the game the controls are a bit fiddily but once you have customised them thay are fine. The 3 problems with Project IGI that stop it from getting the full 5 stars are that there is no in game save function which can be a real pain in the later levels, there are know mods or patches avliable and the difficulty varies from easy to very hard in the space of 2 or 3 levels. If you can live with the problems it is a very rewarding game to play but you do need pretty good system to run it on.
This is as near perfect as it gets.
The only downside to this game is there is no upgrades or online multiplayer options.
You will need a half decent PC to get the best from it , although adjusting the settings will give a good preformance on most machines.
But this is a fantastic game, one shot your dead , means a gun hoo aproach will see you restarting that level very quickley.
Some of the levels can be a challenge, but for most experianced players the levels will roll by too quick, although you will want to go back to some just for the fun of it.
Each mission must be completed in whole , no saves here, but that gives a strong sense of achivement once a level is done and a equal sense of fustration trying to get past been killed.
To complete the game you will need to use each weapon to it's best advantage, knife for stealth kills and sniper to take out longrange threats.
But be warned the ammo runs out , so think what your going to do, and plan.
A very rewarding game, the end gets a bit mental, but thats end levels for you !.
One of my Favorite Games ...
