Customer Reviews
The Doors rock loud!
This is a result of the band getting together to release the boxed sets. After they put together the live in New York material for the boxed set, they got such a good reaction that they put together this album. The contents of the album are from seven of the nine cities that the doors performed in on their 1969 tour - the tour that saw the release of 'Absolutely Live'.
Included in this compilation are the likes of 'Light My Fire', 'Roadhouse Blues' and the Vietnam war classic 'Five To One'. It is fair to say that most of the classics are here from the albums 'The Doors', 'Waiting For The Sun' and 'Morrison Hotel'.
The sound quality of the album is particularly good - comparable even with 'Absolutely Live' and 'Live in Hollywood'. The first song on the album is 'Light My Fire', which clocks in at over 11 minutes - an excellent start to an excellent album. In fact all of the tracks are good - and it is good to hear Jim singing with such aggression on the likes of 'Back Door Man' and 'Five To One'. After a few listens I can assure you that you will be hard pushed to find a song on here that you don't like - the only exception to this is 'The End', which suffers from Jim shouting and screaming about pretty much anything and everything. This is a shame as the song is rightly heralded as a classic and deserved better treatment - if you want to hear a supreme version of 'The End' then I would advise you to go for Boxed Set 1. With the exception of 'The End' 'Bright Midnight' is a worthwhile addition to any fans collection as it shows The Doors at the peak of their power.
In summary a great album - not quite as good as 'Absolutely Live' but good enough for any serious Doors fan.
