Customer Reviews

A fine retrospective, but don't Chop the Cavalry!4
This is a comprehensive and very entertaining overview of an eclectic career which covered so much more ground than that suggested by Lewie's handful of wonderful hit singles, such as "Stop The Cavalry", "You Will Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties" and "Louise (We Get It Right)". All the b-sides of those singles are here too, and the liner notes are interesting reading as part of a neat and likeable package...

...so what happened to the mastering of "Stop The Cavalry", in which the first HALF of the trumpet fanfare which opens the track has gone missing? Was that a conscious decision by some crazy compilation editor, or are the Stiff archives in such sad shape that one of Lewie's most well-loved moments has been chopped like this by damage at some point in the past? Whichever the case, given that this track will be one of the main reasons for many people to give this compilation a try and one of the tracks people will most want in their collection, it's enough of a bungle to lose at least one star. What a pity.
