Like your racing games fast, furious and full of spectacular smashes? You're in luck. With Burnout, Acclaim remove all pretence of going for a serious simulation and instead serve up a delicious dish of pure arcade fun on the Xbox. There are two key selling points to the game--the speed the action runs at and the spectacular crashes.

To facilitate these, the set-up couldn't be more straightforward, with the aim simply being to be first past the post. You can increase your chances of this by driving more dangerously, although that comes with obvious pitfalls in the shape of those aforementioned smashes. Suffice it to say, though, to get through the game you're going to have to take your chances.

Contrary to the serious approach of Project Gotham Racing, this is foot-to-the-pedal stuff, and tremendously good fun to play. And when you do put your proverbial foot down, get ready to move, for this is a blisteringly fast title that deceptively requires more concentration than it would first appear.

The downside is that this won't appeal to those who like their racing games nice and serious, nor to those looking for anything particularly innovative. For Burnout has few qualms about marrying the multimedia power of the Xbox to a game engine that forsakes bells and whistles for speed, destruction and sheer good fun. Burnout a fantastic game
I have just got home with my copy of acclaims 'burnout' and it is fantastic, i was skeptically expecting it to be a unchanged ps2 version but it isn't, the makers have made a really good job of testing some of the xboxes fantastic potential. The graphics on this xbox version are extremely good and well textured and no blur which was one of the ps2 versions downfalls. This is one of the few games which has been able to achieve giving the player a undescriable feeling of speed and movement. This is quite simply a brilliant game which driving and non driving fans alike will love.My advice to you is get it no other driving game can offer what this has.

Fast and Furious? Yes but.....
I purchased this believing the hype (much like the hype of many of the launch titles) that this was a class racing game. The game play is fast, very fast. This can be a letdown if you are looking for a car game with depth. Basically you keep your finger all the way down on the acceleration trigger and dodge the other cars. That is it.
Don't get me wrong, for what it is it is very well made. But it is a port, not a conversion and so doesn't utilise the potential of the X-Box.
The graphics are improved, but when you go into multiplayer you can see a considerable degradation in quality. This is only one instance of the lack of care made in producing this game.
A further example is the game controller set up. This is limited to setting vibration on or off, ok not a big deal but it is just indicative of the lazy port on to a very fine machine.
This game could have been so much more. Sadly I feel we will see a lot more of these types of ports, companies only after a quick buck (as our cousins across the pond would say). Makes you wonder about Bill claiming that they will only allow high quality games to be published.
I give it three stars because it is a lot of fun, but has no real durability. Something for when your mates come round (half drunk at least), but be prepared for embaressment when they see the multiplayer graphics.
If you want to have a racing game with depth and longevity, try RalliSport Challenge. If you really do want this I would advise to wait for this one to hit the bargain bins.

Burnout Heaven
Well burnout is a great little game. Ok its no GT3 or PGR but it never set out to be that sort of game.

Graphics are much better than the PS2 version.

Gameplay reminds me of the Lotus series(on the Amiga). The idea is to get from A to B in 1st, while avoiding all the normal day traffic. Avoiding traffic on each part of the road makes you feel like being on a knife edge - sometimes you move pulls off others it doesn't. The Blur when you boost is quite novel too.

It a great pick up and play game. Its a bit short but 2 player fun will last forever.
