Editorial Reviews
CD Description
'May' is the seventh album by the British contemporary singer-songwriter. The album is unusual in the fact that all of the tracks are under eight minutes long, whereas most of hisprevious albums have contained tracks that last for twenty to thirty minutes. Only his voice and finger picked guitar are featured on these recordings.

The nature of nature
This is the stuff. His third Jagjaguwar release is more of "Sapphie" than of "Making Paper"; once again Richard is accompanied only by his guitar. The simplicity of the album makes it a perfect starting point. Opener "Neon Winter" harks back to his minimalist roots but the remainder is more accessible - pure, natural, delicate and compelling songwriting, performed with an emotive vigour that most albums simply don't have. From the sleeve inwards, the theme appears to be nature herself and the passing of time, the latter strand linking this album to the aforementioned "Sapphie" & "Making Paper". The performances are raw but captured well and, once again, the album feels more like an untethered outburst rather than a calculated object.
It is, as his admirers would expect, both wonderful and unique. This is a vital artist, now more than 12 years into a recording career that is unpredictable, fascinating and rewarding. It's long since time you investigated. Start with this.
