Customer Reviews
a iffy enough royal rumble !
Royal Rumble 2002 and the first since vince closed down the competition as in wcw so some of those stars appeared here in the actual rumble match, you know the rules im sure and the rumble itself was far from perfect with the usual tactic of wheeling out some fodder but it was still entertaining and the result was good.
The undercard was a mixed bag,on the one hand you had a stunning street fight match with vince mcmahon fighting ric flair and some funny commentary between jim ross and the king jerry lawlor and then you had dross like the womans title match, luckily the female matches rarely last long, this one doesnt even last 4 minutes.William regal and edges match was also poor but then the title match featuring jericho vs the rock was another classic, two athletes giving their all and the crowd were going insane for it.
With all of the above analysis i feel a three out of five remains the best verdict and while not a truly blown classic this is still worth a purchase.
The Return of The Game
Wrestling had been in a slump coming in to this royal rumble.
Thr royal rumble is designed to determine the number one contender for the championship and at this time it was fo the undisputed champonship, not like now where their is two belts.
The week previous to this event HHH had just returned from a year long torn quad injury and announced his participation in the rumble along with Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, Kane, And Undertaker to name but a few this event had me of my feet in anticipation and excitement particularly when HHH music hits during the rumble with Austin in the ring awaiting him this was the best planned and delivered rumble the wwe has ever done and will become a classic
Average but for some great moments
On the whole this is pretty run-of-the-mill stuff - but once it REALLY gets going with the Flair-McMahon street fight then it's great! The Rock-Jericho matchup is probably the highlight of the event as it happens at a frantic pace and has some great moments. The Rumble itself is ok with some terrific moments including Maven eliminating 'Taker (WHAT?) and Kane chucking Big Show over the top - some of the entrances are worth watching too! The DVD also contains the emotional return of Triple H to Raw - an amazing spectacle.
On the whole it's standard WWF/E fare lit up by some very good moments worth treasuring. Buy it and you won't be disappointed.
