Amazon.co.uk Review
Richard Richard and Edward Elizabeth Hitler (Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson) present The Very Best of Bottom, a selection of episodes from the flat-share sitcom that plays like an ultra-violent comic-book Withnail and I going ten rounds with Men Behaving Badly. Between 1991-5 Edmondson and Mayall made three series and 18 episodes of the non-adventures of the sex-crazed virgin Richie and the alcoholic Eddie, delivering as many belly laughs as their seminal Young Ones, though shorn of that show's brilliantly inventive surrealism. Outrageous slapstick and spectacularly crude innuendo are to the fore, and there are guest appearances by Young One Christopher Ryan as the literal-minded Dave Hedgehog. Packed with sharp one-liners and imaginative routines, there wasn't a weak episode in the entire run, so selecting five best shows is a matter of personal taste (or lack thereof).

"Smells" features pheromone spray, cheese-and-onion condoms and a lesson in how to remove nose hair with pliers. In "Accident", Richie breaks a leg, before almost getting one over with Helen Lederer's uninhibited "Digger". "Holy" is a Christmas special involving an immaculate misconception and five minutes of added footage, while "Hole" finds our heroes trapped on a condemned Ferris wheel.

On the DVD: The Very Best of Bottom on disc has a 4:3 picture which is excellent for a shot-on-video sitcom, while the mono sound is clear and perfectly functional. Other than the five minutes of extra material in "Holy", originally cut to keep the show down to half-an-hour rather than for censorship reasons, the only extra is a routine photo gallery. --Gary S Dalkin

Violence, innuendo and christmas5
No its not christmas at prince Phillips house....... its Bottom!
The very best of to be precise and as the name suggests it lives up to it's reputation. Watch Eddie help Richie pull out a nose hair with a pair of pliers or help Richie snap his leg into position wwith the aid of a door and some string. Even witness the horror that is Eddies Santa trap. if you are considering purchasing this make an impulse buy you won't regret it.

Finally!4
At last, The Very Best of Bottom is out on DVD! The Depressed Duo shine out in this DVD, as all their best shows are plucked from the Archives and tied together in this fabulous DVD. Smells is the VERY first Bottom Episode, and gives us an insight into how to pull while down the pub. Accident isn't one of my favourite episodes, although the Horse Racing scene is hilarious. Digger is Richie's pathetic stab at pulling, and Holy is the Complete Christmas Episode. The 5 minutes are excellent if you are only used to watching the vhs version. And Hole is my favourite. I like what Eddie and Ritchie wrote for the Stork Margarine competition in the Bugle. The DVD could have had a few more extra features, but apart from that, well worth the money.

Hurrah for buttocks4
Yep, this is the first Bottom DVD available to feature actual episodes from the series. You would think that the BBC would just release all of series 1 on DVD, then all of series 2 later on, and so on, but no - they just picked out 5 of the 'best' ones, although that is just their opinion.

Fortunately, the episodes on this disc are great. The 5 minutes extra in Holy is cool, but thats basically where the extra features end (unless you count a picture gallery - ooo!).

If you're a Bottom fan and don't have any of the episodes on VHS, then consider buying this.
