Manufacturer's Description
The Sub-Compact Digital is a slim pouch that is ideal for carrying and protecting the most compact digital cameras. A small pocket in front provides just enough space to carry an extra memory card. basic pouch
I recently bought the EXCELLENT Canon Ixus 400 digital camera from Amazon... the sheer elegance and beauty demanded protection, so I ordered a pouch along with it so that it would be protected from day 1.
I read bad reviews of the official Canon pouch and it seemed a bit too ugly in comparison with the camera, so I went for this one, which seemed to be the better of the two in terms of fit, fashion and value.
There seemed to be some confusion whether this pouch fitted the Ixus 400 snugly... I can confirm that it doesn't really; there is about 1cm of free space all around the camera. The extra space on the sides merely crushes down in the pocket and therefore doesn't really pose a space issue.
Another review quite rightly said that once a memory card is inserted into the front pocket, the flap does have to be pulled down hard to close it properly. I found this to be a bonus as it does stay closed like this and holds the camera very tightly... which is what I wanted.
The pouch isn't well padded, so if that's what you want, this isn't the one for you. However, it is tough on the outside and will protect against abrasion in the pocket, which I felt is more important; being in my pocket all the time will protect it from most impact damage anyway and I'm not sure if there are any cases out there which would protect the camera if dropped etc.
I'm currently looking for a 'spongy' material to make a lining for the pouch, which could be very effective indeed. At the moment, I am putting the camera into the little bubble wrap bag it came in and then putting it into the pouch. This is working very well, providing some extra impact protection as well as a certain amount of splashproofing... but unfortunately this thin plastic has a limited lifespan.
So, an average pouch really, but one that I would recommend as I think it's the best one available, (haven't found any others on sites or in the shops), especially if you're just going to keep the camera in your pocket.
Waste of money!! Absolute rubbish!!
I bought this case to go with my super smart new Ixus 400 a few months ago.
I give it one star rating only because Amazons rating system doesn't allow a ZERO!!
The case itself is much larger than the camers and inelegant with little padding or protection for your valuable camera.
More annoyingly the case itself has come apart at the seams already, despite only occasional use. It now looks like something you'd pick up a a boot sale rather than a "flash" accesory for a very stylish camera.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY - BUY A CANON CASE THAT FITS AND LOOKS RIGHT!
Good case but not a good fit for IXUS 400
I bought the this case for an IXUS 400, I wanted something that wouldn't significantly add to its size so I could still keep the camera in my pocket but without the risk of damaging the LCD etc. Unfortunately the case is about 13mm too wide for the camera and 8mm too long so it somewhat negates the advantages of having a device so small. Apart for this the case is fine.
