WHAT A WRESTLEMANIA!!!!!!!
WWF Wrestlemania X8 took place in Toronto,Ontario,Canada in the amazing Toronto Skydome on March 17th 2002.I don't think it's as good as Wrestlemania X7 but it's pretty damn close. Here is what happened without giving away results:
A performance by Saliva singing 'Superstar' one of the 2 themes for WMX8.
1)INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE:
William Regal(c) VS Rob Van Dam.
(The best match Regal has had in WWF.Some nasty suplexes on RVD that could have crippled him)
2)EUROPEAN TITLE:
DDP(c) VS Christian.
(Better than you would expect. This is DDP's last WWF PPV match and it is quite good)
3)HARDCORE TITLE:
Maven(c) VS Goldust.
(Maven is too inexperienced to be on a Wrestlemania. He botches a few spots but it's not that bad and I suppose Maven's mistakes were down to nerves, understandable really)
4)Kurt Angle VS Kane.
(Great match. These 2 should have been higher on the card.Plenty of great moves.Angle is awesome.Only problem here is the ending is a bit sloppy)
5)NO DISQUALIFICATIONS:
Ric Flair VS The Undertaker.
(This match was brilliant, not what I expected.Lots of blood and a great run-in and spinebuster by Arn Anderson.Taker was 9-0 at Wrestlemania and was aiming for 10)
Drowning Pool perform 'Tear Away' the other WMX8 theme. Not a good performance, the crowd is silent.
6)Edge VS Booker T.
(Decent match with 2 future main eventers.Good moves from both)
7)Stone Cold Steve Austin VS Scott Hall.
(This match is horrible.I'm a big Austin fan but Hall is really washed up now and drags the match down the toilet)
8)TAG TITLES 4 TEAM ELIMINATION MATCH:
Billy & Chuck(c) VS Dudley Boys VS APA VS Hardy Boys.
(This is a decent match but a pointless ending. The Dudleys come out with Saliva playing their music)
9)The Rock VS Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
(This match was electric. The crowd reaction to this match was huge and Rock being booed makes it more interesting.Probably Hogan's best match ever)
10)WOMEN'S TITLE TRIPLE THREAT:
Jazz(c) VS Lita VS Trish Stratus.
(Much better than you would expect. Some great moves here and an awesome finishing move at the end)
11)UNDISPUTED TITLE:
'Y2J'Chris Jericho(c) VS Triple H.
(This was a good match but Stephanie managing Y2J was silly and the HHH-Steph feud overshadowed the HHH-Y2J feud. Also HHH gives Steph the Pedigree.Overall a great match)
This was one of the best Wrestlemanias ever. There were way more good matches than bad.The best matches were HHH-Y2J,Rock-Hogan,Taker-Flair and Angle-Kane.I recommend you get this and SummerSlam 2002 when it is released, they are the 2 best PPVs so far this year.
It was over hyped
The sheer hype going into this wrestlemania I think ruined what could have been an amazing night. Plus trying to better Wrestlemania X7 was impossible!
Here's my review of each match:
IC Championship:
William Regal Vs. Rob Van Dam 8/10
Good start to the night. Finally RVD has came to Wrestlemania!
European Championship:
Diamond Dallas Page Vs. Christian 6/10
Not worthy of Wrestlemania, at least it was short.
Harcore Championship:
Goldust Vs. Maven 8/10
A Decent harcore match. We see the 24 hour rule come in to play here!
Kane Vs. Kurt Angle 9/10
Great match up! Possiblely the best of night.
Ric Flair Vs. Undertaker 9/10
They both may be has beens but they sure do know how to put on a no holds barred match! Taker was aiming for 10-0 at wrestlemania.
Edge Vs. Booker T 7/10
A very enjoyable match ruined by it's short length.
Scott Hall Vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin 5/10
Stone Colds worst Wrestlemania match since his first at WM 12.
No wonder Hall was sacked!
Triple Threat Match
Womens Championship:
Jazz Vs. Trish Stratus Vs. Lita 6/10
Pretty decent for a womens match
Four team elimination match
Tag Team championship:
Billy and Chuck Vs. APA Vs. Dudley Boyz Vs. Hardy Boyz 5/10
The T.L.C 2 match at WM X7 makes this look like going to church!
Hulk Hogan Vs. The Rock 9/10
Maybe i'm being too genourous by giving it a 9. But it was damn good match. The crowd was just wild!
Undisputed Championship:
Triple H Vs. Chris Jericho (w/ Stephanie McMahon) 5/10
Possibley the worst wrestlemaina main event ever! Way too much hype!
I'm sure I sum it up when I say, it was a good Wrestlemania, not a great one.
Wrestlemania X8- Most Intense Mania Yet ?
Wrestlemaina X8, definitley one of the most anticipated Wrestlemania's in the history of Wrestlemania. But did it live up to the hype? Yes and No. We kick things of with Rob Van Dam vs William Regal for the Intercontinental title. This one was shorter than expected and an average match to start of the PPV. Then we witness another title match, this time with the European title on the line, as Christian attemted to recapture the gold from DDP. Bit of a boring match, but with a good "after-match" segment. Yet another title match would follow, with Tough Enough winner Maven defending the Hardcore title to Goldust. This one barely got started and when it was just getting good, Spike Dudley would run in to take the title from Maven on the 24/7 rule. Later on in the night we would see the title switch from Spike to Hurricane Helms, then to Mighty Molly, to Christian the back to Maven. All these changes were entertaining and were one of the best elements of the PPV. Back in the ring, the next match was going to get underway, with Kane taking on Kurt Angle. This one was quite long and pehaps considered boring, but was of an average standard. The fourth title on the card was next with Chuck and Billy defending the Tag Titles to the Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz and the APA in a Four Corners Elimination match. This one was a little better than most people expected with some good spots, but again like everything so far (excluding the Hardcore changes) this was nothing special. Booker T would duel with Edge next, in a quick match which was again of an average level. Finally the average deadlock would be broken, as Ric Flair would battle the Undertaker in a No DQ match. This one was brutal and a bit bloody making it the best match thus far. The next match would be quite anticipated, but would be very disappointing. In an unmemorable affair, Scott Hall would battle Stone Cold Steve Austin in a suprisingly quick match. Title Match number 5 would follow, with Jazz defending her Womans title to both Trish Stratus and Lita in a Triple Threat match. This one was good, for a Womans title match that is. The most anticipated match would follow with The Rock taking on Hollywood Hulk Hogan. This on was the best match on the card, with the crowd reaction playing a key role. Then we would roll on to the main event, Chris Jericho vs Triple H with the Undisputed WWF title at stake. This one was again suprisingly short with an obvious outcome, but average.
The 18th edition of Wrestlemaina was not the best, in fact no where near the product the WWF have produced in the past. Get the tape for the Rock/Hogan match and the Hardcore title changes, but apart from that, this one is not worth buying, but if you were to add it to your 'Mania colletion than it would not ruin it.
