CD Description
Think of Angie Martinez as the hip-hop Laura Cantrell, an influential DJ so deeply entrenched in her chosen scene that she decided to jump to the other side of the fence, becominga highly regarded recording artist. When the host of New York's Hot 97 debuted in 2001 with UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, it was plain that she had something of her own to offer to the hip-hop world. Like its predecessor, ANIMAL HOUSE features a bevy of Martinez's famous friends, but her own voice and style are front and centre throughout. Martinez's no-nonsense rhyming is ably supported by constantly surprising and inventive production, as on the emphasis track "If I Could Go", which mixes a Latin-inflected guitar line with synths that resemble nothing so much as the Microsoft e-mail alert tones. Fat Joe, Kelis, and others add their personal touches to the album, but it's Martinez who shines the brightest here.

Amazing Angie!!!5
New York Hot 97 radio DJ and part-time rapper Angie Martinez returns with her sophomore set which proves to be a huge improvement on the 2000 release "Up Close And Personal". Shedding the over the top guest list to a mere handful has shown what Angie can really do. With an obvious increase in confidence and more experience behind the mic and in the studio this album will prove a lot of doubters wrong. The title track starts the show off and is an experiment in rap with a unique sound that will infest your brain. But it is after this angry opener that Ms. Martinez shines with a lyrical control beyond her experience. "New Day" and "Never" will be on repeat and show her determination to succeed. The first single "If I Could Go!" introduces her protege Sacario, signed to her new label and will have you up on your feet within seconds of the opening bars. There's party tracks, featuring Kelis, Missy and Fat Joe and there's also songs for the wounded in "... up situation" and "So Good". The album feels polished and anyone who likes female rap will not be disappointed. One up for Angie!!!

WOW5
I simply love Angie Martinez, she's got so much flava and she can definitely work it.
I was well impressed with her debut UP CLOSE & PERSONAL and ANIMAL HOUSE certainly doesn't disappoint, her albums are the type that you can put on and let play.
My favourite song off ANIMAL HOUSE has to be F'ked up Situation, it's just fantastic the way she keeps her cool on the track whilst deep down inside she's hurting about a failed relationship but in true ANGIE style. I also love the last track very melodic and a great finish to the album, I'm not to sure about the interludes in-fact they crack me up on anybody's album, but she definitely makes up for the very few interludes there are with some tight songs.
I recently went through a break-up but I found this album a real comfort in a way that I didn't sit and cry all the time, I got on with life and I knew that Angie had my back.
I wish there was more female rappers like her, the Latin cross over is great, y'all remember LIVE AT JIMMY's? How fly was that track?
