Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, set in the interval between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, is a first-person adventure which lets you step into the role of the galaxy's most heavily armed bounty hunter, Jango Fett, as you track a renegade Jedi across the galaxy, collecting information (and bounties) along the way.

In addition to Jango's trademark dual blaster pistols, your armour bristles with gadgets and weaponry: darts, flamethrower, blowtorch, scanner, cable snare and--of course--a missile-launching jetpack. Utilise this arsenal to battle hordes of uncooperative guards, fend off rival bounty hunters, scale precipitous skyscrapers, and capture fugitives--dead or alive. The basic controls are surprisingly easy to master, and you've got enough armament at your disposal to fight your way out of almost any situation. Still, some finesse is required: as fun as it is to walk into a room and blast everything in sight (and it is fun--especially when you're the one wearing the jetpack), you may discover when the smoke clears that the guy you just fried was worth twice as much alive. Oh well...

The complex storyline is unravelled with extended cut scenes that let you rest your thumbs while Jango follows up the next lead (Star Wars fans will appreciate the quality and detail of these scenes, as well as the fidelity of the story arc--namely how Jango is chosen as the model for the clone troopers in Episode II). And anyone familiar with the LucasArts suite of games will not be disappointed by the superior graphics, music, sound effects and fully realised characters and locations. The pace of the game is up to you: methodically seek out the secrets of each level, or ruthlessly blast your way to the big payoff. --Maile Bohlmann

Exceeds expectations4
Great graphics and gameplay, interesting weapons and movement, superb music. A slightly different outlook on gaming life as you're playing the bad guy: although it's your mission to collect bounties and complete tasks, there's nothing stopping you callously killing innocents by blasting them, setting them on fire or pushing them off ledges.

Anyway, enough with the generalisations: this game seriously sucks you in.

At first it's a bit odd (and off-putting) that you don't really know what the main thrust of the game is: it's not a first-person shoot-em-up as the lock-on facility utterly takes care of aiming for you. Instead it's more about moving around difficult and dangerous landscapes without getting yourself killed (such as climbing up the side of skyscrapers on coruscant with nothing but your jetpack and grip to help you), being picky about who and when you shoot - even in an unprovoked firefight (as you should scan people to see if they have bounties on their head and - whenever possible - tag them and capture them alive) and just staying alive in difficult and demanding circumstances, as the storyline often asks you to attempt some pretty tough scenarios.

The learning curve is a little high - the level after you first get the jetpack is a demanding at the first jetpacking-obstacle and thereafter, plus some weapons you pick up can be quite dangerous to your own health if you don't know what you're doing - the grenade launcher being one in particular that can turn on you if you fire it in an enclosed environment.

However, the memory card and having 5 "re-tries" (lives) cushions these difficulties, as once you've passed a level it saves it to your memory card, and so you can re-attempt the next level as often as it takes to complete it and get a game save again.

Good for players who aren't too fantastic (as you'll get there in the end) and good for more skilled and meticulous players as there's plenty of bonuses to be unlocked by capturing all your bounties and discovering all the secret areas, such as sometimes genuinely funny out-take scenes, a full-length comic book detailing the lead characters origins, interesting concept art and somewhat pointless trading cards.

Surprisingly good?4
My mother bought this game for me when she had me a Gamecube for Christmas...

When I first unwraped it I thought 'oh, geez' but after playing it for about 5 minutes my opinion of this game went up - especially after you get the jet pack...

I was well impressed with the music and the cut scenes plus the guy who plays Jango Fett in AOTC provides the vocals in the game (can't remember the guys name).

Although a bit of a no-brainer its loads of fun. Just misses out on a 5 star as it does get a litte repetative...

Not a jedi star wars game5
Finally we get a Star Wars game that does not evolve X-Wings or Jedi. this is a brillent game, fun and exciting. every level is interesting and the game is not repetitive at all. you have a number of cool weapons to use and you have no respect for anyones life, you are a bounty hunter after all.

Also you can collect bounties along the way, this is fun but you don't really get much in return for doing it, mnaybe they should hav eput in upgrades to buy but none the less it is fun enough to make you do it.

The game is made great with it being set into the Star Wars world making it even better to play when you can visit the famous places around the Star Wars galaxy.

I would buy this game if love star wars and i would buy it if you didn't. a great game and deserves the five stars given. Hopefully more like this will follow.
