Customer Reviews
Madder than a bucket of frogs!
The band name, album name, and eclectic mix of genres may sound like an attempt at wilful obscurity, but this is actually a very accessible CD. The only way I can think to describe it is that it has the spirit of Les Negresses Vertes' first album, Mlah! The only difference is that, on this one you don't have to learn French to understand it.
Although not totally acoustic, there is a very acoustic-punk feel to the whole thing, and it just goes to show that managing to play music with attitude that features fiddles and accordians is not impossible. But Gogol Bordello are not copying LNV or The Levellers at all - they are just the only way to even begin to try and describe what this music is.
If there was any justice in the world, this would be well-known, but it is probably not going to be. This is going to make those who do take the plunge and invest in this slice of inspired anarchy terribly, and justifiably smug.
I'm giving it the full five stars on account of the rare combination of originality and enjoyability.
You really owe it to yourselves!
Just seen Gogol in the Wedgewood rooms and still cannot get over what I saw! They are an absolutely unbelievable band and it really is a crying shame that they are not enormous now. Eugene Hutz is the greatest frontman in music today and the energy is like nothing you've ever seen I assure you. One listen to Baro Foro and you'll be won over!
Do yaselves a favour and get Gogoled
