Customer Reviews
ONE OF THE BEST YOU WILL BUY!
I would think that this CD contains more classic stompers than most other CD compilations. And All the genuine tracks not reworked like some rubbish comps. Around 25 of the biggest floorpackers that has ever been....The sweet things....johnny more...george carrow...patti austin...robert knight...little richard..All massive Torch sounds.
In total there are 58 tracks here and this must be value for money....I am fussy over which CD comps I buy, as there are some utter rubbish CDs out there........Fortunately this is not one of them....This is excellent
This is probably the best (and certainly the best value) ever Northern compilation !
On this one CD are four of my favourite tracks of all time: Nancy Ames, Dana Valery, The Poppies, and Lynne Randell. If you know them you will probably agree. If you don't know them then you have a treat in store. There are many other five star tracks on this CD and very few less than good tracks. If this CD cost £100 it would be excellent value as it is these tracks will cost you just over 10p each. This is a pure guess but on original 7" vinyl I bet there wouldn't be change from £5,000 for the tracks on this CD.
Whatever Columbia say
There's no such thing as Northern Soul in the States-all this music is known simply as rhythm'n'blues.Mostly its a collection of musical failure where every other label copied Motown or Atlantic.
Therefore it seems absurd that collectors end up paying daft money for these discs which are rare because few went to the shops or even got radio play.It was there simply because big labels like Columbia threw enough mud at the wall in the hope that maybe one record would stick-the cold hard facts are that rather than pay exorbitant income tax they would invest further and its perfectly legal.Same as paying millions for advertising
However for collectors like me who love copycat stuff its manna from Heaven.
Even some of the titles here are stolen from the obvious hits-Walk like a man and Angel baby.Did nobody ever notice that there WERE songs of this name which had made the top 5 only a few years earlier? Disapointing as well-I thought I was getting proper cover versions of these songs!
Anyway I agree there is a lot of rubbish being released under the name of Northern Soul and maybe this rubbish is the REAL Northern Soul?
How to spot it? Simple-the name Ian Levine tells you its as faked as most TV "reality shows" are
