Synopsis
This sequel to the 1977 classic finds Stephen Baldwin in the original's Paul Newman role, as Sean Linden, the veteran player/coach of the lowly Charlestown Chiefs, a minor league hockey team on the verge of extinction. However, when the team is sold to a new owner, Sean and the players are optimistic until they find that their role in the new league is to play the Washington Generals to another team's, the IceBreakers, Globetrotters. To add to their humiliation, the Chiefs are saddled with a female coach (Steen), pushing the team far past their breaking point. To revive the team's old spirit, the Hanson brothers (played by the same actors from the original) are brought back to fire up the team and put the hurt on the IceBreakers.

Cracking little film5
What a cracking little movie this is!!! I am a long time fan of the original and was almost expecting dissapointment but when you get away from the fact that apart from a few props being the same as the original movie (i.e. the uniforms, the home town and the Hanson Bros.) and watch it for what it is... which is not a real sequel but a comical ice hockey romp in it's own right..... it's absolutely fab.... Does the same for Hockey as Major League did for baseball....

Plenty of laughs, babes and most importantly... hockey!!!!

Buy it and enjoy it!

Slap Shot - Dont bother1
If you have watched the original film and liked it then be content that you have discovered a great 70's film.

The sequel (like so many other sequels) really doesnt come close to touching the original and within 10 minutes of watching it you realise that it really isnt going to come close.

Poor acting, bad storyline and cheesy / unfunny lines coupled with the Hanson brothers that are 20 years past ther best is a real disapoinment to fans of Slap Shot that were hoping it would be even half as good will be terribley disappointed.

Woefully Inadequate2
Why? That is the question that must be asked. The first film was really something special, one of the great sports movies. This is far from that. It tries hard, but the story itself is poor, completely lacking depth, believability or any originality. Stephen Baldwin is unconvincing, and Gary Busey just goes through the motions. The Hansons are the only good thing in it, and they only have bit parts.

This film just continues the trend of dreadful sporting sequels, like Caddyshack 2, and Major League 2 & 3. Pray to god they don't try for number 3 on this. Grab a beer, and watch the original again.
