Customer Reviews

Good for a Flat Panel TV3
The Bose Acoustimass 3 is a good speaker for use with a flat panel tv. The cubes are very unobtrusive and the sub is small yet gutsy enough for the home cinema experience, if like me you prefer just two channels.

However, from a Hifi perspective the sound quality may disappoint.

For:

* Size
* Reasonable value
* TV suitability

Against:

* Loose bass
* Lack of treble definition
* Needs a decent amp to really cut through the muddy sound
* Vinyl finish a bit 'eighties'
* Poor speaker terminals and supplied bell wire

Not Your Speakers but Your equipment!5
The AM3 are a wicked set of speakers and worth every penny. I would also recommend the AM5s as they have 2 drivers in the base bin and 4 cube speakers, which gives them a richer overall sound. Why do they sound poor? The answer lies in the AMP or the CD player or the connection from the AMP to the CD player. You are only as good as your weakest link. It's going to cost you around £400 - £600 to get the best out those speakers. Underpowered speakers produce a thin tinny sound. So if your AMP is not powerful enough your speakers will sound low. Is you AMP able to give your speakers 200 watts at 4 ohms? (It's always better to have a higher rated AMP than speakers)Second. If go shopping for a car you might imagine they all have four wheels an engine etc. But they are all different and the cost is also different. Sure some of it is marketing but you can't say a Porsche is the same car as a Skoda. Likewise a CD player falls under the same rule £100 CD player Okay sound, £300 -£500 CD player much better sound. £1000 + superb quality. Thirdly. Connections try forcing a river through a 1/4 inch pipe and the flow will become somewhat restricted. Open it up nice and wide and the flow will be restored. Likewise your connections are crucial. Nice piece of 2mm thick black wire with a red/black phono from Dixon's and you'll be forcing the river Amazon through the eye of a needle. Nice pro audio cable 6mm - 8mm + and the sound will flow unrestricted. All those warm bass tones and Mid are allowed to pass out your speakers. To close, you can't polish a third! So if you want decent speakers you need a decent set up to match. Advice, buy a HI-Fi mag check out some reviews NAD Cambridge Audio etc or go to an Audio store and test drive them.

dissapointed1
i have just bought these speakers today, when i plugged them into my amp alongside my beaten up memorex speakers which i bought in 1988 for £40 i ws horrified. The poor tin like sound is shocking compared to my old school bins, ok so the top end is good but thats about it. i've wanted these speakers for ages, they sounded ok in the shop but now i wish i hadn't bothered. i will be contacting bose for an explanation and a refund :(
