Product Description

The first solo album from Heather Headley, who won a 1998 Tony for her performance in Tim Rice and Elton John's AIDA, is slick, contemporary urban R&B with just a hint of her native Trinidadian background. Songs such as the sizzling album-opener "He Is" and the sultry "Always Been Your Girl" demonstrate her range, while the after-hours appeal of "Nature of a Man" is undeniable.
There's little trace of Headley's theatrical roots save in the variety of moods she's able to conjure, and she makes the crossover from stage to recording studio seem almost effortless. While she's obviously more athome with the balladry of songs such as "Fulltime", the lighthearted pop swing of "Sunday" is a charming hint of what she may be capable of on future outings.

Soulful debut album from Heather Headley5
This album is just the best soul album i've ever owned. This is who i am, has really got that emotional grip on me, it's got everything a modern day album should have, including the amazing talent of Heather Headley. I first heard of her when a friend of mine had told me about the song 'I wish i wasn't', and ever since then i had been hooked on this beautiful voice. The album goes through various meanings behind the songs...from Heartbreak, loving somebody and natures of a man. If you like powerful voices with a smooth texture to go along with it. If soul's your thang then be sure to get this album. It's a gem, believe me, theres no song on here that you will skip, so whatcha waiting for? Put it in your basket right now!

THIS IS HEATHER HEADLEY4
Heather Headley is yet another name that I stumbled across by accident, like Jerzee Monet and Goapele, and like the debuts by those two artists, this is impressive stuff.
Heather, originally from the Caribbean nation of Trinidad & Tobago, certainly has the songs and the voice to hit the bigtime. Introduction 'He Is' tells the listener right away that this lady has a serious voice, and more importantly it sets the tone for the rest of the album.
If the music industry were a train, Heather's stop would have to be Ballad Town. For virtually every song on this album is laced with easy melodies, powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics. After a while this can become wearisome, but then you get to track six and BAM! WOW! 'Like Ya Use To' is one of the best two songs on the album, written by Dallas Austin - the r'n'b legend behind the likes of Monica - and has Heather squaring up to a boyf who obviously has no interest in her. A wicked cool song.
'Always Been Your Girl', 'Sunday' and 'Fallin' For You' are other gems on the album showing exactly what got Miss Headley the record deal in the first place.
But it's last track 'If It Wasn't For Your Love' that stands out. Admittedly, Heather doesn't have the vocal capabilities of Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey at this early stage in her career, but with songs as good as this there's no reason why she shouldn't hit the jackpot. The music is like something from a Disney movie (!) but it sounds gorgeous, and the lyrics are beautiful. Honestly, this is the only song that has ever even brought me close to tears!
So Heather Headley, a brand new talent to watch out for in this nearly brand-new century. 4 Stars, why? Well, too many ballads slightly spoil this album, although it is a credit that ballad after ballad can still sound fresh in places. Those of you into Monica, Beyonce and Jill Scott can rejoice in the emergence of a fresh new talent.

Disappointing2
Heather has a great voice, I can see why comparisons to India.Arie have been made - Heather's voice is deep, soulful, strong and sexy - just like India's. However, the song's are nowhere near India's high standard. There's only three good tracks worth mentioning - "He Is", "Like Ya Used To" and "Sunday", the others are so-so, skippable tracks.
