Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
For most of Stanley Climbfall, their second album, Lifehouse shrewdly stick to the emotional guitar-rock palette of their breakthrough album No Name Face. "I wouldn't change a thing," frontman Jason Wade declares on the searing "Spin", and the band follows through on powerful, life-affirming tracks such as "Wash" and "Take Me Away". Produced by Ron Aniello (Days of the New), mixed by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, U2) and written primarily between tours, this is the kind of ambitious and endearing album that suggests its makers won't settle for anything less than global domination. --Aidin Vazari

CD Description
Second album by hugely successful Los Angeles radio rockers, following 2000's 'No Name Face'. Featuring more of their trademark angst-ridden post-grunge in the vein of Creed, Vertical Horizon and Stone Temple Pilots, the album was producedby Ron Aniello and mixed by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Korn, RATM).

Can it even get better?5
Stanley Climbfall will most probably be the biggest surprise of the year in the Alternative Rock category. After their smashing debut "No Name Face", I was critical as to whether Lifehouse would be able to keep up with the debut album. I was absolutely stunned when I first listened to "Stanley Climbfall". No doubt, it is different from "No Name Face", perhaps more mature and perhaps a bit louder than the debut but Jason Wade has yet again succeded in combining beautiful lyrics with beautiful music. "Spin" could well be another "Hanging by a moment". "Sky is falling" and "Empty Space" as well as "My precious" are songs that I like particularly much. It's like you can listen to these songs and still be stunned by their beauty long after you have listened to them. If there is any album that would be able to compete with "Stanley Climbfall", it would be "No Name Face". Both albums, so unique, so different from each other, and yet both so beautiful. Five stars for this album and buy this one but also buy "No Name Face" in addition.

it takes a while to get used to, but it's totally worth it5
When I first got this cd, I was really excited because I loved Lifehouses last album 'No Names Face' and i expected more of the same with 'Stanley Climbfall'. But when I put the cd in I thought 'what's going on here!?!'.
When you first hear this album besides the first track Spin, the rest of the album appears far to soft and all the tracks seem to blur into one boring and directionless noise. So i was very disappointed.

But I decided to gave the album another try and I'm very glad I did! after 2 or 3 listens you really do start to pick up on so many things that you previously didn't see. And you really can appreciate the deep heart felt lyrics, and you suddenly think 'this is actually a good song, how come i never realised it before now?'. what first appeared to be lifeless tracks seem to spring to life, and you soon realise that tracks like 'Sky is Falling' and 'Take Me Away' are among the best Lifehouse have ever written.

I remeber Lifehouses first album was just like this, in the sense that you needed a couple of listens to it to discover how great it really was. So i guess this is just the same.

So when you get past the first impression of the album, and see what the music is really about, then you will see that Lifehouse continue in the same vain as they did on 'No Names Face' offering strong, emotional, chilled out songs with a cutting rock edge. But on this album Lifehouse appear to have grown, as their already strong song writing ability has improved greatly, and as a result they have produced some of the strongest songs so far in their short career. It really is a great follow up to 'No Names Face' as it retains the same music ideals and just improves on them. This is probably just about superior to their previous effort.

So if you liked Lifehouse's first album you will love this reccord, also if you are a new fan who likes bands like Vertical Horizon, Nine Days and Michelle Branch then I'm sure you will also enjoy this reccord. But just be warned that this cd wont jump out at you after the first listen, it does take a bit of time to get into it, but when you are into it, and you see how good the tracks are it's totally worth it.

An improvement on perfection?4
Lifehouse have actually been around for a while now but are still pretty unknown in Britian with only Hanging On To You actually making an impact on the UK charts. Funny for the band with the most played single on US radio last year! Stanley Climbfall is their follow up album to the quite fantastic No Name Face and should help to cement them as a band to take seriously.

Spin - The debut single. Really rocky and just all round brilliant. Is actually better than Hanging On To You and deserves to do better than it no doubt will. A very good start.

Wash - Grungy whilst still keeping their familiar sound. Definitly not a stand out track but is by no means bad. Could be a grower so listen to it a few times.

Sky Is Falling - A definite background track. Pleasant to listen to but not going to stick in your head. Not bad but definitely not unbelievable. We shall call this one Not Spin.

Anchor - Much heavier than the last two tracks. More of a Spin feel to it...but slower. Definitely an improvement than the last two songs with some really cool harmonies in it. You'll be singing along to this one.

Am I Ever Going To Find Out - A grower? Well maybe but it is actually quite good on first listen. More of a Bon Jovi sound to it (well at least I though so!). Is a nice track but not a single. Again not bad but not brilliant. The biggest thing that stuck out for me was that it is quite short.

Sanley Climbfall - The title track. This is actually just an album track rather than the big single of the album like most other title tracks. Is good though. More of the sounds form No Name Face coming through. Jason's voice is definitely sounding the best in this song so far with complex vocal jumps sounding simple when he does them. Oh and I was singing along by the end of the song.

Out Of Breath - Good harmonies in the verses which cut into a rocking chorus. Again a sing along chorus. Could be a good rock kariokie album this! Very different actually with really random harmonies but definitly a good song.

Just Another Name - All I can think of when I listen to this song is the music that they play along to speeded up film. Just imagine two men running around putting up some shelves. I was thinking of the Chuckle Brothers - how about you? In all seriousness this is another good song. But not a brilliant song (although definintly not bad). Could be good live though.
Take Me Away - Great start. Definite single (or at least it should be). Its a car advert! Seriously just listen to the first 30 seconds whilst doing the monologue for the new Audi...it works. Slightly weaker verses (due to them being to subdued I thing). But the chorus rocks and because we're only going to hear the first 30 seconds in adverst anyway, it doesn't matter! But no, it is actually a really really good song.

My Precious - It's the listen to me in the dark song. Definite yes to this song. It's subtle whilst still being quite rocky and the whole band (which wouldn't be hard only being 3, well ok now 4 of them!). I really like this one. Probably a single but should be saved for the album.

Empty Space - Bit of a radiohead start - hard driven lead and very acoustic guitars in unison. Another hit though. This song had to compete with track 11 of the last album (Somewhere Inbetween) which was my favourite song so it has to be good. It dons't dissapoint either, will be really good live and is really good on the album too. A sing along song for evenyone. Has a real bop to it whilst still remaining a song to be taken seriously.

The Beginning - Oh the ironey of the title. Don't let the obviousness put you off. Much less rock than the rest of the album. Kind of follows where Empty Space left off. A nice finish that will leave you wanting more...which you can have with the special edition album. Another two track both of which are really good.

In conclusion, get this album if you have No Name Face. Get it if you don't but also get No Name Face because it is a marginally better album. Hence the 4 not 5 stars. Harsh perhaps due to my love for the album by the end of my first listen. Also get the special edition with the bonus tracks because the acoustic version of Sky Is Falling is really really good and worth the extra money. As a final thought, this band really do sound a lot like Pearl Jam...which can never be a bad thing.
