Amazon.co.uk Review
As you might have guessed already, Billy Connolly Live 2002 presents highlights from the Big Yin's 2002 stage tour. The programme is divided in two, the first part offering an hour from his Dublin show, the second delivering 45 minutes of highlights from eight other performances. Now 60, age has not withered Connolly--even if, as he is fond of reminding us, his pubic hair has turned grey--and his restless energy, enthusiasm, casual obscenity, and anger is as intense as ever. He is also, of course, still very, very funny. Whether talking about the horrors of a prostrate examination or reminiscing about a prank played by fellow ex-Humblebum Gerry Rafferty, Connolly has the Dublin audience in hysterics. Killarney is treated to an explanation of why he hates beaches and Newcastle gets a wonderful demonstration of how his wife suffers from his sleep apnoea. In London, Billy delivers a spot-on lecture on the difficulty of buying an airline ticket, while Manchester discovers "Hungry Bum Syndrome", and Bournemouth gets a hilarious tale involving vegemite and bed sheets. Finally Connolly's Sheffield account of filming a sex scene for the movie The Big Man (1990) is just priceless. Crude, rude and not for the remotely easily offended, this is Connolly the stand-up comedian on top form. --Gary S Dalkin

Moments...some shining, some dull
I do laugh at and enjoy most of Connolly's work. Even though I might have appreciated this if it came from a lesser comedian, I think it is sub-par for Billy. You can do much better both for value and content if you go for "Greatest Hits" - which has around two and a half hours of footage spanning two decades; more importantly most of the stuff there is funnier and more interesting than what's included in this 90min DVD. I would agree with the other reviewers who said that Billy uses the F-word a little too much (not that I'm offended the least bit but it's almost like he's trying to make what he's telling funnier by swearing through it - clearly seen in his diatribe on Feng-Shui) and that this isn't the best Billy. I would either get "Greatest Hits" or wait for the new release coming out at the end of November.
Not the best Billy
As a big fan of the 'Big Yin' I was a little disappointed with this latest video. Whilst some of the old magic was there, some of the material was not up to the great man's standards. I was also surprised just how many time Billy used the 'F' word, you always expect it, but it appeared as though he was being paid for the amount of times he could say it. There was still enough for Billy fans to enjoy, but as my teacher used to say 'Could do better'.
Hilarious !
Don't watch this DVD if laughing aloud will be a problem. The only complaint I can come up with, after now watching the DVD twice, is that it ends.
An hour long live performance in Dublin starts the DVD, which is then followed by clips of shows from Billy Connolly's 2002 tour.
All audiences will enjoy this product, the young, the old, men and women, anyone!
Top sketches include a trip to the doctor's, gynaecology, The encyclopedia on CD Rom, Going to the beach and men shopping. On the whole, this is a DVD no Connolly fan wants to be without, and anyone in need of a hearty laugh wants to have.
The DVD doesn't offer any extra features, but is still worthy of a 5star rating, as it delivers exactly what is written on the box....Billy Connolly Live (and brilliant).
Order now, you need this.
